question for henna heads

where do you get your henna from?

I have used this copper henna for a while but don't find it too lasting and it makes my hair very dry.

are there higher quality henna powders our there? I prefer pure henna, not keen on the Lush stuff Wink and I am after a copperish henna colour (i.e. not too bright red).

I haven't been using it that long, so I am not an expert - I order it from Renaissance Henna, also on amazon. Not much help with your specific colour, b/c I am just trying to cover the gray. I do a 2 step with henna first and then indigo. Have been buying from RH for 2+ years, always good quality and she gives lots of advice if you need it.

I don't like the lush Henna- it doesn't last for long and dries my hair out. Shahair Hussain Henara is good stuff.

Magnoliamum- how does the indigo work? I am thinking of doing it. Hav dark brown hair but lots of greys now which henna turns orange!

magnoliamom · 16/09/2013 23:55

I use henna first, which I leave on for a few hours wrapped in cling film and smelling like lawn clippings. It does turn the grays bright orange but then you apply the indigo after the henna is rinsed out. It sits on there for much less time, I leave it maybe 15 minutes. Then that is rinsed out and if all goes well, the grays are a dark reddish brown and the rest is darker reddish brown, it looks a bit like highlights and it's shiny and healthy. I did have to experiment with it for a while but even the less successful times, it still looked ok. I think there are lots of ways to mix it and apply it, but my grays are really stubborn so I stick with this method.

My (organic) hairdresser is very scathing about Lush products in general and Lush henna in particular, which he claims is full of non natural ingredients and poor quality henna.

I was recommended the henna from [[http://www.henna-boy.co.uk
Henna Boy]] which is supposed to be highest quality and pure.

I use Lush henna, 2/3 marron and 1/3 noir (indigo) mixed together. That gives me a dark red/brown colour. It covers the grey really well and last until the roots grow out, so around 4 - 5 weeks.

phaedra - just had a look at henna Boy.

I am really puzzled about the colours so. do you have any idea which henna powder to choose if you aim for a nice copper colour (my hair is mid brownish). Jamila henna powder?

I have to recommend www.hennacat.co.uk she also sells jamila amongst other types. There's loads of videos, pics and u can send in questions too. She has a Facebook presence with lots of special offers on it too which is always welcome!! Grin

I used lush henna about a month ago. It has turned my normally pale blonde-red hair into a much more luscious red. I love it.

I used 1 part rouge to 2 parts marron. It seems to be fading slightly, and I'm going to need to do some roots soon. I'd like it to go an even more conker red type colour... Ie a bit darker.

I'm not sure whether to do the same ratio and just put it on the roots, or just do a whole head again. Plus how do you just get the cowpat onto the roots without it going every bloody where?

I looked at henna boy and am not sure how you figure out what colour you will end up with.

Lazysuzanne · 19/11/2013 11:31

When I used henna I always did whole head never just roots.

I know that approach is harmful with chemical dyes because the hair becomes over processed, with henna (iirc) it's a good thing because it makes the colour richer.

There's an Internet forum devoted to henna use.
