Does HRT prevent lines and wrinkles on the face ?

Hi there, i'm 38 and was put on HRT 3 weeks ago as iv'e been having perimenopausal symptoms. For the past couple of years iv'e been getting quite a few wrinkles and the last few months they seem to be appearing at an alarming rate!! They seem to be cropping up overnight!! I'm 38, i know that's not young as such but i'm starting to look a lot older, like about 45. I'm terrified of looking really old and ugly-looking. My husband whom i married 18 months ago is just 26 so i feel under intense pressure to keep looking good. He says my wrinkles don't bother him but i hate it and it's really getting me down. I couldn't afford Botox and i wouldn't want it either because of the risks. Recently iv'e read quite a few articles about HRT and it's benefits. It's meant to keep a woman's skin looking vibrant and youthfu and also supposed to make hair thick and glossy. I used to have lovely hair but the past few years it's become dry, frizzy and brittle and keeps falling out. I'm at my wits end with all this.Anyone else on HRT who has found their skin and hair looking better ?l

Sorry I can't answer the question about hrt but have you looked at changing your skin care routine? ie. possibly trying the oil cleansing method which is supposed to be good for improving the appearance of the skin. I've read threads on here about posters having good results with mild acid peels at home so you could do an advanced search in Style and Beauty.

Also the obvious thing like drinking plenty of water, getting decent sleep and sunscreen.

I'm pretty sure they're not as horrific as you think you know, and your DH sounds lovely. Three weeks doesn't sound long to have been on the hrt so you may see results yet.

I commiserate about the hair - I think I'm peri menopausal (appointment next week to discuss) and the most depressing symptom for me so far is the rate my hair is falling out Sad.

Actually, Ive just thought, there's a menopause topic so you might get better answers asking there Smile.

If I had a 26 year old man, I wouldn't give a hoot what I looked like, I'd be too busy enjoying his affection! ;)

Seriously, stress can affect your health and your appearance so when you say you are under intense pressure, that could well be assisting you in looking old before your time.

I put a few drops of argan oil that I bought in one of the pound shops and it has made my hair lovely and silky.

I am older than you.

I would look at spa treatments rather than anything intense and altering. Feeling relaxed, refreshed and happy do more for your looks than any lotion, potion or needle.

Don't let it become an obsession in how you look as your insecurity will become unattractive and drive even the most patient of husbands away.

Avoid the sun on your face, wear an SPF every day, moisturise and enjoy bein half of a loving relationship.

Hair and skin do deteriorate when your estrogen levels fall.
You will need to take HRT until you are at least 50 if you had an early meno- so plenty of time to see some improvement. Yes, it should help if your poor hair etc coincides with your hormones. But you also need to have a healthy lifestyle which means Omega 3 oil found in almonds, green veg and oily fish.

I'm 43, barely had a period after turning 38 and have been on HRT for the last couple of years. I too was worried about being catapulted into my 50s lookswise. My skin seemed drier all over so now I eat more salmon and veg and I keep meaning to get supplements.

I slather my face with argan oil each night instead of a night cream and I'm convinced it's helping. On my body I use shea body butter and baby oil. And there are plenty of thickening and smoothing serums for your hair.

Now I've shared my tips with you... please tell me how to find a man 12 years younger then me! Grin
