Getting your 'colours' done

Am thinking about it - not sure whether it is really worth the money. Also whethe to go for just the colours or the full monty - clothes to suit body type, makeup etc etc.

Anyone had theirs done and transformed their lives and wardrobes?!!!!

My Mum gave me this as a 30th birthday present - it was great and really made a difference to what I buy (and wear).
The other day I was wearing a top that was obviously exactly right for my skin tones etc and loads of people said how well I looked, how much they liked the top etc. One girl said she thought it looked like some designer label - it was New Look (} but it really does make a difference if you but things in the right colours.

(BTW I am not very trendy or really into fashion or anything but I couldn't believe the difference)

I had this done when I was 17, 20 years ago and it still stays with me. I tend to avoid the colours she told me to, due to my skin tone, hair colour etc, I feel it works for me.

Thanks for that Tommy - I am really tempted - I seem to have a wardrobe full of stuff I hardly wear cos when I put it on it just doesn't look right.

Did you just have colours or the whole thing by the way?

cod and I are both huge advocates of this - threads passim here . I went to a cheaper version though, as Colour Me Beautiful costs a fortune.
Not sure the 'clothes for your shape' would tell you anything that the What Not To Wear book doesn't though, and I barely wear makeup so that bit would be wasted on me, but the colour advice is definitely worth hearing.

Has transformed my wardrobe (if not my life), especially as I had to ditch all blacks and greys - am much less depressing now!

How does it work regarding your colouring though -in the summer I can be quite brown but in the winter I'm a gentle shade of blue/white . Or is it more to do with hair and eye colour?

eldestgirl · 22/06/2006 12:30

It's analysed based on your hair, skin and eye tones. The basis is whether you have a yellow/blue skin tone, and then they look at your eyes and hair and try various swatches against you to see what brings out the best in you.
I had the basic CMB done when I was 18 (birthday present from Mum) and it has stood me in good stead. It does make buying clothes easier.
My Mum did the makeup one later on and I have to say, she looked fantastic afterwards, as the lady really "updated" her otherwise left-in-the-seventies look.
It makes it really easy to chuck out stuff that you never really felt comfy/attractive in.

I've had both my colours and style done, with House of Colour. Yep, it is expensive, but IMO worth every penny. Feel much better about myself, and shopping is so much quicker.

I had the colours and make up done.
My shape has changed so much since I had children that I'm not sure that "clothes for my chape" would have been beneficial

Tommy · 22/06/2006 14:27

oh - the other thing I found though was that you have to buy your clothes in the season that you suit IYSWIM. I'm a light Spring andI find all the colours that suit me in the shops in early Spring - which is fine if you remember to buy ahead but if you suddenly realise you need a new outfit and it's October, most of the shops are full of colours that don't suit you!
