They kind of look like they have been fashioned from a horse's leg.

For that reason, I'm out.

I bet they are warm though!

sophiedaal · 11/09/2013 17:10

Oh. I've wanted a pair of these for ages, but invested in neoprene wellies last winter instead. I was a bit put off by reviews saying the sizing is a bit weird. Do they need a lot of breaking in?

Rooners · 11/09/2013 17:40

I don't know, I haven't got any! I would like some though.

Horse's leg. Arf. Smile

These are fashioned from those creatures that used to live in a hut on cbeebies. Some kind of troll I think.

I'm desperate for a pair of these. I can just about justify a pair now I walk three miles a day...
I need to check the sizing before I order.

crazy8 · 11/09/2013 18:17

Have a look at outdoorclearance. I bought a par of Joan of Arctic boots for £70. I can't wait for it to snow! Grin

CoolStoryBro · 11/09/2013 18:20

I have had a pair for the last 3 years and I LOVE them. They still look great even after months of daily use and long snowy dog walks.

snowlie · 11/09/2013 18:30

Sizing is weird - mine are not comfy but I loved how they looked so took the chance....regrets.....I've had a few!

haverer · 11/09/2013 18:34

I've got these - the warmest boots in the world. But also as sore on the heels as new Doc Marten boots. Totally worth it.

Rooners · 11/09/2013 18:48

Oh wow! You know I just read up on the sizing and it says to order at least half a size down.

Crazy, thanks for the heads up, I may just have erm, ordered some. Cool website! And it looks legitimate which actually, I have been known to order from fake-o Chinese websites not so long ago, and so it's great to know you bought yours from there mystery person on the internet Grin

I have suede Joan of arctics in the taffy colour. They are so warm and comfortable.

I bought mine from Amazon US and they were miles cheaper than in the UK.

hettie · 11/09/2013 20:37

I have a pair of sorels from 15 years ago- still going strong. They are ace, and I lurrve them...They have now gotten much cooler, this years winter offerings on the website come in lots of different styles.

Rooners, You are very welcome. I have checked and checked and a friend buys quite a lot from that website so am presuming all is legit. I really can't wait for it to snow!

ThePieSmuggler · 11/09/2013 23:10

Oh I like these boots, a lot! Unfortunately my bank account doesn't Hmm Does anyone know of a similar style a bit easier on the pocket?

Rooners · 12/09/2013 07:42

Crazy, I was only joking, I am sure it is fine, I'm just always aware of how I fucked up last time I bought something wonderfully discounted! (Ergo carrier) Blush

Did everyone who has them find they had to size down?

Pie, I will see if I can find anything similar when I have a moment. Got to go out in a min x

I bought some Joan of Arctics last winter but sold them as they were SO uncomfortable and a massive pain to get on and off. Plus impossible to drive in.

Would recommend Merrell Oslos instead, far more comfortable.

Rooners · 12/09/2013 07:56

Not being able to drive is a consideration Meg...Oh dear!

I can drive in wellies if they aren't too wet though.

I was looking at the Oslo boots, they are about the same price I think. They look really nice.

OP posts:
Rooners · 13/09/2013 15:31

Well they have arrived and are beautiful. They do come up big though and feel slippy at the back, but are also hard to tie tightly enough.

I am thinking about keeping them...Pie, I have just noticed on sports direct that they are pre ordering a load of identical boots under the brand 'Nevica'. £54.99 for this style (like the Joans) and they look exactly the same.

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 13/09/2013 16:06

I don't find them hard to get on and off at all. Can't think whether I've found them hard to drive in, certainly not that I've noticed.

JamInMyWellies · 13/09/2013 16:14

I bought a pair of sorel snow boots 10yrs ago when living NY. They are still going strong. Really comfy and great quality. Well worth the price tag.

MegBusset · 13/09/2013 16:44

Yeah it was the endless lacing and relacing that really drove me nuts.

gindrinker · 13/09/2013 19:37

Ooooooooh the cheaper ones are slightly more justifiable.
I'll have a proper internet rummage and see if I can find Joan of artics for sub £100.

Do I need these as well as knee high Dr martens???

Rooners · 13/09/2013 20:19

Argh. that's another thread - if anyone wants a brand new unworn pair of knee high docs let me know!! They've been sitting on the cellar stairs for a year now since I decided I was still cool enough to wear them, bought them and then realised I'm not, in fact. sigh

OP posts:
ThePieSmuggler · 13/09/2013 21:22

Thanks for that Rooners, I like the Whistler version, and much as I hate sports direct I think I could be tempted!!! Grin
