where can I get baby jumpers/cardis made of wool?

Looking for wool or wool mix baby jumpers and cardis. Everything seems to be cotton and that's not going to keep DD warm unless I put 17 layers on her. Or they say wool mix but it's really just 5% wool or something.

Any ideas? I've looked on a few merino sites but they generally just have pyjama type stuff.

thanks!

No ideas I'm afraid. I think it's because wool doesn't mix very well with baby puke/ frequent machine washing.

Both my dc had cardigans that were lined with something and little fleecy jumpers. Dd had a very cute brown one (next) with bear ears on the hood. :)

Thick cotton's warm. You don't have to wear wool to be warm. I'm allergic to it, so can't wear it. I can't wear acrylic and polyester either, but I still keep warm

ah fleece, good idea. will look at next, i hadnt looked there.

yes fair point about washing, I put wool through a cool wash but guess not as frequently as baby stuff needs washing.

orange I find I'm cold in cotton but then I'm a cold person, hopefully dd isn't!

Charity shops. I have found many hand knitted wool baby clothes, done seem to have people who knit stuff specifically for charity shop to sell.

minipie · 11/09/2013 15:33

ooh that would be lovely Celtic. will keep my eyes peeled.

Boden and Brora and Little White Company. Alternatively, M&S often do thermal tops and vests that you can put on under their clothes.

Was coming on to suggest Brora. Some lovely things!

minipie · 11/09/2013 15:48

didn't realise Brora did baby stuff... just had a look, some lovely things, I cannot spend £80+ on a baby's cardigan though! might have a look on ebay...

bonpoint
Boden

Wildwaterfalls · 11/09/2013 16:53

I know what you mean re brora prices. Ebay or waiting for sales is a good idea. Or charity shops in posh areas Smile

Cambridge Baby www.cambridgebaby.co.uk/catalog/ and Lana Bambini lanabambini.co.uk/store/natural-materials/wool-baby-and-children-s-clothes.html, I find the Disana and Engel brands very good quality, they wash very well.

PrimalLass · 11/09/2013 17:16

I wouldn't - they will be too itchy.

Loveleopardprint · 11/09/2013 18:23

Lots of wool/ craft shops sell handmade knitted or crocheted cardigans by local people.

minipie · 11/09/2013 18:29

It'll be going over a cotton vest or t shirt though Primal

Just looked on Cambridgebaby and have fallen in love with so many things!

it seems wool is expensive these days! might have to get DD's grannies knitting.

boden or my mum Grin or retrouve in the barn in Leamington/warwick (not sure) does bespoke hand knits in wools only.

I just told my dm off for knitting dc2 an acrylic cardi - ds had all cashmerino (which i shrunk Shock ) but still feel this baby deserves the same Grin

NomDeClavier · 11/09/2013 19:23

I just do my own so do get the grannies on the case.

I don't favour pure wool for baby clothes though. You can great acrylic mixes that feel soft and wash/wear really well. Or cotton really can be very warm, or bamboo.

fossil971 · 11/09/2013 19:26

Learn to knit - or commission someone who does.

this has some lovely basic cardigans and the Baby cashmerino yarn is a merino/cashmere/microfibre mix which is very soft. Buy the book and some yarn in a colour you like for one of the grannies!

fossil971 · 11/09/2013 19:28

cheaper book, the Classic Cardigan is one I've knitted a few times.

siblingrevelry · 11/09/2013 19:29

Next have knitted/wool type cardi's

minipie · 11/09/2013 21:48

i have no time to knit! granny 1 doesn't knit, granny 2 does but it will be a while till she can produce anything. cashmerino sounds lovely though.
