Long-haul business class flight... what to wear

What would you suggest to wear on a long-haul business class flight? I'm thinking cosy but also smart...

... problem is I don't think there are many things out there that are cosy AND smart. Ballet pumps are an option, but I will be travelling in a few months, in the midst of winter, so walking around with them in the cold does not sound great to me...

Any suggestions?

That is a great dress. I could be tempted to get that myself.

I agree with everyone else in the response to the OP - there's no need for anything smart. I travel a fair bit on business and regardless of the cabin these are my "rules":

-never go sockless (otherwise you end up walking around the scuzzy security area barefoot if they want to scan your shoes - vile)
-always wear trousers on a night or long flight so you can get comfy, put legs up, get into whatever position you like without worrying about flashing your knicks
-wear something loose around the waist - I always blow up on flights
-layers because cabins can be boiling hot or freezing cold and everything in between, often several of these on one flight
-always take a wrap because it can be a scarf, blanket, pillow or cushion

HandMini That's what is perfect about this dress... There's no "defined" waist, so you can scrunch it (or not) as much or as little as you want, wherever it looks best on you!

Agree, nobody paying for business class flights needs to worry about looking smart. I wear yoga pants, trainers, long sleeved t shirt and a waterfall cardigan or DKNY cozy.

These are great tips. Thanks a lot!!!

I'm not paying Smile. Company is. But did warn DH that I may want this to 'escalate' to private travel, too.

He's currently cutting up all the credit and debit cards. Wink

OH BA is lovely! I travelled with dh and if you get the middle two seats, when they lie flat it's like having your own cocooned double bed! Since you aren't flying with your dh, I'd recommend avoiding a middle seat. Aisle is probably best, as if you get a window seat, you have to climb over the seat next to you to get out if they recline.

check out SeatGuru to see seat configurations - sometimes they have seats on their own - if not, I would go for an aisle seat to prevent having to climb over people - saw a comedy moment last week on a plane when quite a short lady in a tight skirt tried to step over sleeping man - she had to hoik skirt up quite high and legs not long enough to make the step over .. she almost fell over him with skirt up round her waist - just glad he did not wake up at that moment!

Carol That would have been hilarious. RomCom in the making.

Hi I am new here so hopefully I will be able to help. I fly business class long haul several times a year and to be honest, what most folk have said about dressing smart is correct - however, I have noticed that the ladies (unless very young) do tend to be "smart casual". Don't forget that you will be entitled to use that particular airline's Executive Lounge and some (not all) do have a dress code so you may want to check on that also. I am travelling long haul in January so need to be warm for arrival at airport, but I always change once seat belt sign has gone off into a pair of leggings and one of those thermal, very light t shirts you can get a M&S + some fluffy socks. These take up absolutely no room in your cabin bag. I also take off all my makeup and slather on the moisturiser :) Mine is an overnight flight so leggings and T shirt are idea for sleeping once your bed is down. You don't need a shawl or Pashmina as they do provide pillows and duvet / blanket. As I am arriving in a hot country so I will also take a clean outfit also in my hand luggage (suitable to that climate) and change into that just before arrival and freshen up the makeup (minimally as you cannot take a lot in hand baggage). Because of the increase in baggage allowance, all the above is doable - sounds like a lot of faffing around and this is what I thought when I was originally given these hints. However, it makes for a much more comfortable flight and a fresh arrival. These hints were passed on to me by a relative who used to be a member of cabin crew and who flew long haul all the time. I hope that all helps and my input is not too late for your flight. Have fun and enjoy

I often fly overnight immediately after leaving our US offices. I’m usually wearing a jersey dress with tights and jacket. I swap my jacket for a hoodie and carry clean tights and that’s it. I usually just have a meal and then go to sleep.

@Sipti1983 Her flight was six years ago.

Yoga pants, trainers, wool t-shirt. If you need to go straight into a business meeting, check out Dress pant-Yoga pant.
