What do you think of these shoes?

Thinking of autumn/winter flats and quite fancy a slipper style:

Views, please on these:

www.duoboots.com/ladies-shoes/black-suede/jagger/d/

Have some Duo boots but haven't tried their shoes. Tend to like Russell and Bromley best, with additions from Hobbs, Geox, Boden, and L K Bennett.

Also rather taken by these:

  • though the colours would be more limiting.

Any views for or against??

I don't like the first pair, they look like market slippers. Second pair are better.

wornoutbutstillwonderful · 11/09/2013 06:56

I like both, obviously the first pair are more versatile but the second pair are lovely. Does it have to be a choice? What about treating yourself to both as they are quite a different finish. I don't think I would ever have an animal print as a main pair, more a pretty extra.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 11/09/2013 06:57

Second pair are nicest, really don't like the first.

BinarySolo · 11/09/2013 07:00

I think they both look cheap, which obviously they're not! Don't really like either pair.

bonzo77 · 11/09/2013 07:09

Both bloody awful, but you clearly have different taste from me as they're the sort of thing that wouldn't get a second glance from me.

Incapinka · 11/09/2013 07:10

Second pair far better than first...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 11/09/2013 07:13

Second pair better than first but I don't really like either. Sorry!

snowlie · 11/09/2013 07:22

Prefer the first pair, but I'm not into the shape of the shoe.

Nombrechanger · 11/09/2013 07:25

Second pair are lovely!

polyhymnia · 11/09/2013 09:33

Hmm, thanks for comments.

Taste in shoes is pretty personal, I agree, and there are lots of styles - eg vertiginous heels - I wouldn't give a second glance.

Can see what those who don't like the slipper shape are getting at - didn't like it myself when it first came in, but have now come round to it and want to try a pair.

I like the second pair better - but agree that animal print shoes have to be an 'extra.' So have to be sure they'd look good with at least some of my outfits.

On first, think my eye was caught because they're like a pair from earlier this year in R and B - nicer, I must admit, but also dearer. But now think something without studs - whether slipper-shape or not - would certainly be a better choice for my 'day-to-day' flats.

If you are considering the Duo ones go and look in one of their shops, somehow I always find their shoes look different in the flesh - often nicer.

I like them both. The slipper shape is quite Sloaney, but they're nice shoes. I prefer the first pair & they'll go with more. Russell & Bromley have loads.

Many posters here seem to be into Clarks so I wouldn't pay much heed to naysayers...

polyhymnia · 11/09/2013 11:00

Ah, yes, I too am not a Clarks fan.

I'm in London so think a R and B, Hobbs, Duo circuit in Covent Garden is called for soon!

It took a while but the slipper style has really grown on me recently - I saw a woman wearing a pair like the ones in your first link with skinny jeans and a slouchy damson mohair jumper yesterday and they looked really nice.

choceyes · 11/09/2013 11:16

I like them both! I prefer the second pair as I've seen a lot of cheaper versions of the first pair, but I think the first pair is more versatile.

HappyGirlNow · 11/09/2013 14:16

I prefer the first.. I have an almost identical pair from Zara.

Twinklestein · 11/09/2013 14:31

I was just looking for shoes on Zalando & I noticed these I thought you might like them OP.

Gadea is Spanish brand, nice quality & well made. I have pair of heeled brogues from them...

polyhymnia · 11/09/2013 14:55

Thanks. Yes I do indeed like those . The colour says brown which I wasn't looking for but looks a nice subtle neutral.

moondog · 11/09/2013 15:03

No, they are like something Hugh Hefner would wear with a silk dressing gown.
I know they are supposed to be all t' rage but they will date quicker than an M&S egg sandwich.

polyhymnia · 11/09/2013 16:10

Don't want to look like Hugh Hefner. When they first came in I had all these sorts of feelings about slippers but they gave grown on me . Of course, I do see that
the fact I've now come round to them might mean they are going to go out again before long! Or, possibly, become a classic shape, like loafers ballerinas , etc ..

OP posts:
Twinklestein · 11/09/2013 16:26

I think they're classic, they've been around for years, just having a 'now' moment...
