Boots for dresses?

pinkpiggy · 08/09/2013 20:27

I am looking for boots that would suit dresses and black tights. I wear just above or on the knee dresses (such as Dorothy Perkins Billie and Blossom style) and I am short (5ft3) and a size 14/16. Any ideas?

Watching for tips

Me too. I'm very confused about whether I can dig out my knee length boots again or do I have to try and find ankle boots that don't make me look very chunky of leg.

go for a black ankle boot with a narrow top and either a chunky or at least substantial mid-height heel for everyday, or a higher heel and pointy toe for evenings or if you're comfortable in high heels as both styles, with black opaques, will give you a leg lengthening illusion. Try looking in places like Kurt Geiger, Office or Clarks for rip offs of these super spendy designs:

Failing that, Dune have some great knee boots in this season although they seem to have gone pretty out there with the prices.

i'm loving my new grey (but they come in black too iirc) clarks ankle boots called Nice Melody. They are a wedge heel. I am usually a non-heel wearer but find these so comfy. I'd link for you only I'm on my phone. I think grey is more practical as they go with black, denim, navy, brown, green....

Thanks for the suggestions. I am not sure ankle boots suit me as I am not slim but will take a look. Are knee highs or mid height boots a no go with boots? And I thought boots with a heel were mum boots Confused

I meant 'no go with dresses', not boots! Blush

I have had a quick look on Clarks website at their ankle boots. The only ones that may suit me are:

  • Livvy Belgrave
  • Lucilla Denny
  • Marble Cool
  • Musky Mario

Sorry, I can't work out how to link Blush

Are any of these completely awful / mumsy?

Thank you Grin

a good knee boot with a high heel or a chunky heel for more casual styles, are classics, especially in black leather. Suede is really in this season too although bad for wear and especially in this weather! Ankle boots are usually a lot more flattering than people think plus you don't get that 'hot legs' thing you get with a lot of boots!

These two are great - the other two, I'd avoid :)

  • Marble Cool
  • Musky Mario

Boden is great for boots too, apparently they're super comfy too. There are always voucher codes kicking around for boden and for clarks too so definitely worth a look. Gap do excellent boots too.

Thank you Smile

Had a look at Camel Active boots on Amazon, such as the paris boot, roz boot or tunis side zip. Any to avoid?

Actually, I am not sure I like the Camel Active ones Hmm

Knee boots and even over-the-knee boots totally still work with dark tights and shorter dresses! Ankle boots dont suit everyone, or every look. Seriously!
