I had my beautiful veins stripped a year ago only on one leg because strangely that was the only problem fast forwards and they are back but worse they look beyond gross from bikini line to ankle buldging and woody I feel quite unwell looking at them sooo should I try having them injected? Or would they just come back again and again until I have no veins left and my leg falls off and seriously why only one leg.Ive lost weight have healthy BMI i do exercise don t stand for ages why in my thirties do I have the leg of an eighty year old?

I had EVLT on mine two years ago. Best thing ever. Minimal scars, quick recovery, and they haven't come back, (although I know there's still a possibility they might).

suntodayplease · 08/09/2013 10:24

Ihatemytoes was this done privately? Do you mind saying how much it was? In terms of quick recovery, do you think this is something you could have done if you've got a 6 month old with you at home full time? Looking to have this done next year, once the baby is out who I'd like to blame for my vv's!

Stripping veins causes them to grow back again - research published in the British Journal of Surgery in 2007. NICE guidelines in July 2013 say you should have EVLT or Radiofrequency - NOT stripping.

Which is the least painful or least intrusive option? Can the other two options be done without a GA?

Sorry, hijacking thread but I've had them since the age of 16. Never worn shorts or skirts. Many years and two babies later they are really bad and now on both legs. Even my midwife was shocked :(. I'm thinking its time to do something but I'm a bit of a wimp so I want the least scary option. Would be grateful for any advice, I'd so like so have nice legs.

One other question- when I did go to the doctor about 10 years ago for advice, she said that my main leg vein was affected so nothing could be done. Is that still the case that main ones can't be treated?

Thanks :)

I had mine done privately, through a scheme that my husband has paid in to for years. I think it costs about £3000.

And I went on holiday to Cornwall a week after I had it done. My groin was a bit achy, but I was still able to do a lot of walking. They insert the laser thingy near the groin area, hence the ache. I had to wear a tight bandage over my whole leg for a week. I probably wouldn't have had it done if I'd had a baby at home.

And no general Anaesthetic.

sandiy · 08/09/2013 17:31

For stripping general anaesthetic but day surgery, felt crap for a week massive bruising and of course did nt stop them coming back.I was in clinical trial which funnily enough proved that stripping was ineffective.

Had both legs stripped 6 years ago. Whilst they have come back they are no where near as ad. However I still have other symptoms like tired achy heavy legs. Veins IMO are hereditary I have older siblings who have had both legs stripped three times and their legs are definitely not good now.they had it done privately. Mine was done by a cardiovascular surgeon on NHS. I think I would go laser if they get any worse.
