WOOLOVERS- I have developed a bit of a thing for their wares.

After being underwhelmed with their cotton/silk mix cropped cardigan and the age it took to get them I have to say that I have been impressed with their merino/cashmere mix hoody for women. It works really well if you are short in the body and the material is soft and warm. HERE
Some of their designs scream gimmertimes but I was impressed with the quality of the cropped cardigans in the same material too and they weren't cut in a frumpy way.

Now I'm eyeing up their fair isle stuff but have reined myself in because I fear I am one step away from red trousers with that one. Thoughts?

I wish they wouldn't bother with all this unisex business though - I mean that is not going to work. I want the wine colour offered in the in women's range.

Can't comment on the products but I'm loving the use of 'gimmertimes'

charitygirl · 07/09/2013 19:40

OOoh, sell it to me practicality. I am in desperate need of cardigans and v attracted by their prices but have been put off by bad reviews on here. Think this is the enabler I've been looking for.

Love fair isle but it only looks good in chunky knit which I can't do. Also poss it only works on 22 yo East Londoners. But it does look gorge.

CakeInMyFace · 07/09/2013 19:48

Hmmm.Love that jumper you linked to. Have been eyeing up the polo sweater dress in grey for a while in lambswool too. Be interested to hear what others have to say. Are there any discount codes floating about?

practicality · 07/09/2013 19:49

Yes I fear it may be one step too close to country vicar's wife for me......

Still that might be a style angle worth exploring.......... I mean now that would be new territory. Grin

It's autumn and I am feeling all a bit waxy- jackety and stinky labradorish actually.

Anyone else?

OOh, I actually really quite like their stuff. I live in a freezing old house and their thick wool jumpers are fabulouso (my usual style is sort of toast/ hush wannabe). I think their cashmere can be a bit thin but the pure wool stuff is great and my husband has a guernsey from them which he loves.

Mind you I do have an ancient Barbour that I was wearing just now to walk our retriever so perhaps I'm not the best person to comment....

I bought two of their ladies v neck cashmere/merino jumpers and kept very quiet about it as the catalogue is indeed gimmer-tastic ..... I loved them so much I have bought two more and am now admitting it (anonymously on tinternet).

Bit of an arse having to pay for any returns if sizing is wrong, though ...

charitygirl · 07/09/2013 20:34

Do you pronounce it to rhyme with 'pullovers'? I know we're meant to (aren't we?) but I just can't bring myself to it, so I stick to 'wool lovers'.

charitygirl · 07/09/2013 20:36

Just had another good look at their cardis and Uniqlo's. Neither are exciting me. Think I'm going to have to visit a Uniqlo. The Pure Collection's cropped ones look nice, but I don't really want cashmere, apart from the ££ issue.

CointreauVersial · 07/09/2013 20:37

Don't be put off by the dreadful mumsy styling on the website and catalogue - it is solid quality and very good value.

I bought a cream Guernsey last year, and it is SO thick and warm; also a black merino cashmere longline jumper which has been worn to death.

Sizing generally comes up big, especially the unisex stuff, bit they do free returns, so worth a punt.

evertonmint · 07/09/2013 21:03

I bought a cropped cashmere merino cardigan last year from them and wore it all the time. Machine washed brilliantly, kept its shape, is totally wearable this year despite being worn at least 3 days a week through the very long winter last year! Am about to buy a couple more for this autumn/winter. Really worth a punt given the price.

practicality · 07/09/2013 21:03

Sizing wise - I bought the cropped cardigans in medium and I'm a size 14 and they are fitted without pulling.

Same size for the hoody and that is perfect in terms of giving you some shape (it is low cut too) with enough room for layering. I wear mine over a long black vest style jersey maxi.

The purple one is my favourite followed by the charcoal. The green is brighter than it looks as is the rose red but still good colours.

I have bought this in the navy. Will report back.

Re the slouchy jumper ^ - I luffs it. Sizing is generous. I didn't want mine too swingy so the small is roomy enough and I'm a 14. Really comfortable material and warm. Neckline is not too high (it's not a throat gripping crew neck - shudder^) and sleeves are WRIST LENGTH and aren't ribbed but left to curl up slightly IYSWIM.

Good casual jumper all in all. Perfect for apples as it glides past a wider mid section to mid hip.

I bought the lambswool zip-up hoody and really like it. It's not as soft as other lambswool knits I have, but is vvv warm and looks nice. Probably will soften up with washing.

Sadly there is a stitching fault and the zip is coming away for about 2 inches in the middle. Not decided yet if I will bother sending it back or just have a go at fixing it myself. Haven't sewn anything since I was about 10 Blush but it can't be that hard, eh?

Fuckitthatlldo · 12/09/2013 12:54

I like their cashmere/merino mix stuff. I think the quality is excellent for the price, and it washes well. I have the grey and navy v-neck cardigan, plus a couple of scoop necked sweaters.

The styling on the website and in the catalogue is dreadful, but that's neither here nor there. The beauty of good quality basics is that you can wear them however you like.

libertychick · 12/09/2013 13:29

I have a black merino/cashmere mix sweater I bought last year and wearing it today - feeling very snug. It's not the most stylish item I own but good quality (have had to debobble it a couple of times) basic that does the job. I'll probably get one in grey this winter.

herbaceous · 12/09/2013 14:35

Roffle at 'gimmertimes'. I've oft perused the catalogue, thinking lots of its wares look both sensible and warm, and promptly dropped it like a hot brick.

However, if they're sensible, warm AND stylish I may let myself go hog wild. How curvy is the fit, though? I'm all tits and arse, me.

practicality · 12/09/2013 18:41

The cut of the items is generous. Better to check the chest measurement of each item and make a call from there depending on how you like things cut.

OP posts:
herbaceous · 12/09/2013 20:00

Does it go in at the waist? Boxy shapes do nothing for me... The 'models' on the website manage to make them look as though they do.

practicality · 12/09/2013 22:07

No there is absolutely no waist shape to it. It's an oversized knit- they tend to be boxy.

gobbin · 12/09/2013 22:18

I have the relaxed grandad shirt in grey and had a 'like your jumper miss' from a Yr 9 girl in school so their stuff isn't totally gimmer-tastic!

I also have a cotton/silk cardi, unisex crewneck lambswool jumper (thinner than expected but incredibly warm so it's great for layering) and intend to get a longline wool gilet - my mum has one for knocking round the house when it's cooler and she loves it.

jetstar · 12/09/2013 22:34

Ooh I am very tempted by the slouchy jumper and some cardigans (I am a young gimmer)
