Skirts for wearing with flat knee high boots?

I like to wear casual chunky flat knee high boots with skirts that finish just above the knee. I am a size 16 hourglass so need an a line to skim my hips. Flared skater ones tend to look iffy and the hems look uneven as they stick out on my big bottom.

Everything I find is either mini or pencil skirt. Or is dry clean only. Budget is £55 max.

Oh and I'm a winter in HoC so I'd prefer black, navy, grey purple or good dark denim. No khaki or browns please! Please help me before I resort to a boring boden denim skirt!

Monsoon have some knee length skirts

White Stuff have some nice skirts

Don't dismiss skater skirts, as the way they hang will depend on the weight and drape of the fabric. You'll need to actually try them on first, of course.

KosherBacon · 08/09/2013 18:52

LadyMud I think you are right. I look at skater skirts and they just make me think of 15 year old girls wearing thin flimsy jersey ones that look really flimsy. I wonder where does a really good heavy weight fabric that goes to just above

... The knee or on the knee. (Oops posted too soon).

Top Shop do a skater skirt in their Tall range - might fit? Can't remember what colours except black.

Snoot · 08/09/2013 19:06

What do you think of this?

LadyBigtoes · 08/09/2013 19:09

Agree white stuff are great for a-line skirts and boden often do heavy (thick jersey) ones. in your budget if you get a good offer code, or on eBay.

They are also very easy to make!

KosherBacon · 08/09/2013 19:15

Snoot- shape is ok (maybe an inch or two shorter) but I don't like the pattern!

LadyBigtoes- the White Stuff patterns aren't my style either. I thought I liked the Sunmers End skirt until I saw the embroidery.

Hmm, what about this?

KosherBacon · 10/09/2013 21:14

Well I had a quick scoot in Marks and Spencer. The quality has just gone downhill.

This one was such awful material. The wool content is negligible and I could imagine being freezing wearing it. I also thought that the faux leather trim looked more like somebody had shoved some black electrical tape around the edge.

This one was slightly better, although it was crying out for a lining. I could see it sticking to my tights and clothes and hanging badly.

I wasn't a fan of a lot of the patterns and the skirts above weren't even worth trying on.

How about Laura Ashley? Their A line skirts are usually really lovely, well made and generous of length. Not been in there yet this season, though I saw the most gorgeous winter coat in the window.
