Nail dilemma for job interview

DoctorRobert · 06/09/2013 11:39

I have a job interview next week - first job I've applied for since having DD, and first interview in 3 years. Eeek.

The problem is my nails. I bite them, and they are badly bitten right down. I don't have enough money atm to get false ones done.

So...as long as they're clean obviously...would you leave them bare, or put a clear/nude nail varnish on? Does that look daft on really short nails (I only usually paint my toes.)

Or, are those stick on nails you can buy any good? I have a horrible image of them popping off during the interview.

This is for a customer facing role, so am worried that my nails would be noted as obviously a good appearance will be important.

You can get good stick on nails, just don't buy crap cheap ones from Claires or somewhere. Go to super drug and buy better quality plain ones and paint in a neutral or light pink colour.

i would just make sure that they are clean and shaped, even if they are really short, just file them so no ragged edges and maybe buff or a coat of clear varnish/nail conditioner.

If you don't bite them for the next three weeks they will grow to a reasonable length i.e. not look chewed.

DS bites his nails when he is in school - but on hols doesn't. I can tell when he has had just a week off, as the nails grow enough to have a white tip at the end.

Thanks, the interview is in 4 days though

Oh sorry OP - I speed read and made it out to be 3 weeks.

I would be wary of stick on nails though as you need to be focused on the interview, and the questions and answers. Not worried about a nail pinging off.

But you could practice between now and then, if you want to wear them.

I wouldn't give a stuff about an interviewee's nails as long as they were clean.

File the raggedy edges, don't bite between now and the interview and put a coat of clear polish on. I think it's important to look neat and home-done falsies may look a bit rubbish.

I bite mine. They always look much better when filed and polished. Coloured polish is near but accentuates that they're short whereas clear makes them look tidy but less likely for the length to be noted.

I'd say file & pale pink varnish too, just look clean & neat. I have never tried false nails & would be a bit wary of the first time being for an important occasion. Besides, nails don't have to be long to look nice.

Also might be worth getting that horrible tasting stuff you can put on your nails to stop you biting them for the next few days - at least your nicely filed nails will stay nicely filed until the interviews over!

Good luck Smile

Thanks all. I definitely won't bite them between now and then, and will go for a coat of clear varnish.

Broadway petite false nails are very natural.
