What should I get for my birthday?

I have a birthday coming up and I have no clue what to ask DH to get. He normally spends up to £100. I am starting a new full time job in a few weeks and I'm not into jewellery, watches and already have perfume (Issy Myake).

Last year he bought stemless wine glasses and a lovely flower arrangement (which I loved), champagne and a Green and Black's chocolate hamper (nice but wasted on me). He also put together things which didn't cost anything.

I would like to get something that I can use as a treat. We don't buy stuff during the year or at Christmas and birthdays are the one time we spend money on each other. If you had £100 to spend on yourself, what would you get?

Well, what do you like? And do you want a "thing", or an "experience"?

Bath Spa is great, if you live down that way - you could have a spa session and a treatment.

How about a nice meal out in a posh restaurant?

Are you into gadgets - what about a kindle?

Something to wear?

Something for the house?

I love cooking, so something for the kitchen is always fine by me.

Do you use makeup? If so, some good makeup brushes might be an idea?
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush is good for liquid foundation - it's around £10 in Boots/Superdrug. A Mac 217 is a great eyeshadow brush and is £18. The Real Techniques Blush Brush is good for blush and face powder, and that's £10.
I've had Mac brushes for years, and even with weekly washing, they are still very good.

A luxury lipstick - could be a (sheer) Chanel lipstick in a colour you will use every day, or a darker/brighter one for when going out. Guerlain is also nice.
Or a nail polish (Chanel, Guerlain, Dior) or a very nice powder, such as Guerlain Meteorites.
Some new makeup generally - a mascara, eyeshadows, blusher?

A pretty scarf might be nice too. I personally like this one a lot: www.selfridges.com/en/Womenswear/Categories/Shop-Accessories/Scarves/Magnolia-print-silk-scarf_172-86057480-WJXA546BS586/?previewAttribute=Black

A new purse or wallet?
New sunglasses?

Le Creuset or Staub stuff? I really like the mugs and the 3-ply stainless steel range from Le Creuset.

Personally, I'd either go for some luxury makeup or a new scarf.

I don't see why you should have to ask him to buy you something? Doesn't that take away element of surprise of birthday gift? Why not just
Accept money from him and buy what u want? Not that it makes a difference if ure telling him what u want him to buy u

I want a thing(s) rather than an experience. We will go out for dinner and I'll make a nice meal for a few friends and our children. I love my kindle and DH will give me his old tablet when he gets a new one (totally fine with me). I'm not into gadgets, he once bought me an iron for a joke Confused.

I have make up brushes and love my Guerlain lipstick. Make up is a great idea for work. I have staples that I use all the time but a must have/time saver would be fab.

Something for the house, kitchen or to wear would be great. £100 is a lot of money and I want something I can spoil myself with.

I love this Camembert baker. I would say my taste is modern.

I could ask for money but It means something that he tracks something down and arranges delivery/ buys it and wraps it. I know it sounds strange but If I have a large wish list I wouldn't know exactly what I would get. If I gave him some ideas he could get an off list surprise. He'd be ok with that if I could give him some idea.

I know some people are funny about this, but if you like cooking what about some really ace kitchen knives?

Vibbe · 04/09/2013 12:18

Pillivuyt is a good brand for quite simple white porcelain. The quality is incredible: royaldesign.co.uk/viewpattern.aspx?pat=2007
I don't know this website - but they do have a lot of the range so you can see it.

AaDB · 04/09/2013 19:18

Vibbe there are things on your link that I didin't even know I needed, such as a porcelain jam jar and lid, cow shaped creamer.

Card - great idea. I'm not superstitious about knives for presents. We have our tenth anniversary coming up. In the meantime, from the wedding, I am still well stocked for essentials such as a santoku knife set, naice plates, Dualit toaster etc.

Any other ideas, please?

If you like cooking, you could go wild with a Lakeland catalogue.
What about a picture for a wall somewhere?

Belindaearl2 · 04/09/2013 20:55

A new handbag or long boots for by birthday this month (38 Shock)

Belindaearl2 · 04/09/2013 21:05

...my boots b/w

Paintingrainbowskies · 04/09/2013 21:12

I would go with shoes.

Every year hubby buys me a magazine subscription as well (Red magazine is my fav). I love this because it is a gift that lasts all year!

AaDB · 05/09/2013 18:24

Great boots.

I'm thinking of a nice compact, Chanel or Guerlain or something else?

I need inspiration for a gorgeous doodah or two.
