Should I cut all my hair off?

I have fine, shoulder-length hair with a bit of wave in it; I wear it lightly layered for more volume. It is naturally mousy as hell, and for years I have dyed it. When I was younger, it was blonde (I have fair skin and blue eyes so didn't look too bad) and now it's red (again, goes pretty well with my complexion).

I actually think my hair looks decent most of the time but I am SO BORED with shoulder-length red hair. I went through a stage of having a pixie cut in my early 20s and am thinking of just chopping it all off and going back to that.

Should I do it? Will it make me really butch? I also have a fat round face. Will it just make me look enormous?

I'm just going through this dilemma myself RevoltingPeasant (not much help am I?)

I feel your concerns though: I've got well below the shoulder hair - fine, lots of it but curly. In my younger days it was cork screw, nowadays it's more curly if that makes sense.

On Sunday, I freely admit I looked a sight - think brushed out hair, so very candy floss-like, wearing no makeup and generally looking washed out.
My mum suggested a change in hairstyle (she was being very diplomatic, truly she was!).

I'm 46 this year and I would love to have a style that looked more groomed (not overly so) and, well just more stylish.

However, I'm 5'11" and do not want to look butch either.

I did it two years ago. I had been looking at pictures of me with a short crop when I was in my twenties and thought I'd look younger if I had the same cut again.

I got loads of compliments when I first had it done as it did make me look a bit refreshed and my hair looked in better condition.

The novelty wore off though when I looked at new photos and realised that I looked a lot less feminine than I did with longer hair.

I've since grown it again but make sure I keep it in nice condition.

I recently went for a crop (to get rid of dye) so I had the double whammy of very short and grey hair at the same time. I didn't recognise myself in the mirror for a while. BUT I've had dozens of compliments and I can see that it does suit me. I was so worried about looking unfeminine (esp as I'm tall and athletic build).

To compensate I make more of an effort with make-up and clothes, and I get my hair cut every 5 weeks (ouch, the cost!)

I love being able to style my hair in less than a minute, and in hot weather it's been great. But I'll probably go back to chin-length at some point. Long hair doesn't suit me at all.

I must be honest with you though. I do think that being slim and esp having a slim neck and chin makes it more flattering.

I'm about to have go for the chop this week.mine is half way down my back , thick and wavy and unfortunately I cocked up a home dye, so I am getting it corrected and cut at the same time. All I ever do is tie it up for work and loose it looks nice when just washed and straightened but boring the rst of the time.

I'm going for a bob with a few choppy layers I think.. and I'm looking on pinterest for styles.

I WISH I had the guts to do a Jessie J and start all over again but I'm not that brave!

The good thing about hair is it does grow again so no change is permanent:)

I think a short pixie crop looks lovely on petite women with elfin type faces, or women with a 'quirky' style.

On anyone else it tends to look butch imo - sorry.

How about a shorter bob instead?

RevoltingPeasant · 03/09/2013 20:39

Thanks all.

I can't really do a bob as my hair is floppy and it doesn't really stay in one place without loads of product.

It is funny, I remember feeling quite butch when I had my pixie cut but u also remember other people liking it. I am wondering about dressing it up with dangly earrings and femmy clothes - these days for work, I wear a lot of fitted tops and knee length skirts and heeled boots type combos.

Hmmm! I feel like it is one of those things which might be a bad idea but which I might just do anyhow!!

Also maybe I should just lose a stone as I am quite short and curvy nautrally so,that might help with the elfin thing.
