Oh just remembered.

I also think of stuff that's handy (long tops with sleeves etc good for layering) and nude camisoles etc. Those generally I KEEP.

I tend to buy new knickers (or used to) every 6 months - not now done this but I SHOULD ditch the old ones, LOL but did that with some older ones recently. but some of the older ones are better for TOM.

MissDD who is TOM and why is he wearing your knickers?

(Unless your TOM knickers are what DH calls my "FreddiePants" )
No flipping idea where the name "Freddie" arose from Confused

I was severe with my wardrobe in feb- I charity shopped everything that was too small.

I am now buying practically the same things back off ebay as I lose weight.

I am a real life cautionary tale. Wink

Wow, in my house, T-shirts last for years! If they only last one season, think of all those T-shirts ending up in landfill etc.

hefner · 04/09/2013 09:44

Oh I really need to do this. I've got a double wardrobe, a shelf and a big suitcase under the bed all crammed full and I only wear a tiny percentage of it. Looking at my wardrobe makes me feel really weighed down because it's so overstuffed - it's hard to get things in or out and everything comes out really creased. I find it so hard to get rid of anything because as previous posters have said I worry that I will miss it, or suddenly find the perfect thing to go with it. Pretty much everything fits and is in decent condition but is a bit "meh". I find it hard to judge whether things suit me as I don't really have a sense of what my style is.

I think I'll have a go at being ruthless this weekend - I may have to come back for some encouragement when I wimp out and decide to keep everything (again)!

milky if you want the flock covered non slip hangers then TKMaxx / Homesense have them.

Costco do huge packs sometimes, much cheaper - if you go there.

They are much much thinner than regular but I've had them from different shops and the quality does vary.

I felt inspired yesterday evening after reading this thread. I used to cull my wardrobe on a regular basis but hadn't done it lately. I have a lot of clothes which are quite worn now or don't do anything for me so they're in a big pile ready to go to the charity shop. I need to get better at shopping so I don't buy rubbish clothes in the first place!

I bought some nice wooden hangers in Poundstretcher.

MissDD1971 · 04/09/2013 13:04

TOM is Time Of The Month!

ErrorError · 04/09/2013 15:24

Wilko also do matching wooden hangers in sets of 5. I recently got some, they look nice but will see how they fare with use. They do matching sets of plastic ones too but have been a bit sneaky because a few years ago I bought a pack of 10, the plastic was sturdy and smooth. Now their plastic ones are in packs of 8, are much thinner and more flimsy looking with sharpish edges.

I need to do another cull even after giving 4 bin bags full to charity. The piles seem to be breeding! I don't think I'll ever attain the ideal capsule wardrobe, but I aim to have a core of: a few nice night out tops, a few functional everyday t-shirts on rotation, 1 gym outfit, one pair of formal trousers and a couple of work tops, a couple of 'multiple occasion worthy' dresses, and 1 pair of decent jeans I can wear to the death. Also 1 decent warm coat, 1 cardigan for milder days, and 1 rain mac. Even all that is more than I'd actually need!

I have so many pairs of decent PJs I hardly use too, I went on a PJ buying spree once. Do charity shops take them or is it a hygiene thing. I've never seen any in the shops and too embarrassed to ask. FWIW I'm in the 'sleep with knickers on camp' but that probably won't make a difference. They're too nice to bin though.

aftermay · 04/09/2013 21:32

Hefner - yay, go for it. Pencil the time for culling in your diary this weekend. Do it in daylight and go for it.

aftermay · 04/09/2013 21:33

ErrorError - I'm sure I've seen nighties and dressing gowns in charity shops.

aftermay · 04/09/2013 21:46

Dim question but what in the world are matching hangers. Do they match the colour of the item you hang on them? I don't think I get this.

aftermay haha! Sorry, but the image was funny!

No, places like TK maxx do packs of hangers. Like 10-15-25 etc. and they are all the same colour, size etc. i looked at some today, I am looking for some slightly round, the ones I've seen are quite flimsy.
To give you an idea, mine is full of plastic ones, in different colours and shapes. And I just thought, you know, when you buy something off the rail, they all look neat and coordonated, just...nice, like thought has been put into it. There's more important things in life, granted, but I just never thought about that before, to me,it makes sense.

aftermay · 04/09/2013 22:21

Thanks for the explanation. I was happy imagining hangers colour coordinated to clothes but reached the animal print & multicolour barrier and I thought I'd ask for clarification :) Sounds like a good idea. To start with, I'll check all wardrobes for matching hangers.

ErrorError · 05/09/2013 00:38

Thanks for the PJ/charity shop replies. Perhaps I've not looked hard enough or in the right places. So I will discreetly check again. I have about 9 pairs of decent PJs and only use 3 of them.
