No idea where to start - interview/new job clothes

I fear I may be a hopeless case.
I'm 37, been a sahm for 7 years previous to that was in a job with a uniform for 6 years. I've started applying for jobs so will need something smart for an interview and then a couple of smart/casual outfits to wear to work.
I normally cba with 'fashion' - I live in jeans and baggy t-shirts - literally have nothing else. I feel uncomfortable in dresses and skirts as I am on the large side (size 18/20) I have enormous bum, thighs and calfs and so have trouble finding flattering trousers and have never found boots that fit. I also have huge boobs which I'm very conscious of.
This is so outside of my comfort zone I can't tell you. Where do I start? Can someone point me the direction of a foolproof shop where I won't end up with something my elderly neighbour might buy (i.e m&s) or isn't skinny trendy intimidating style?
Also what sort of stuff should I be looking for?

I'd start with a good top and jacket as the upper half is the most visible during an interview (if it's the usual one, behind a desk/across a table). Good luck.

Wrap dresses over tights, with jackets and cardigans. Comfortabke and practical. Wear with scarves or chunky necklaces. Monsoon do some larger sizes and Boden go up to a 22 (I think)

IME office environments are getting much more relaxed all the time. I know very few men who wear a tie nowadays (most keep one in the drawer for important meetings). So don't worry too much.

While it is very industry specific, in general I would just buy a smart pair of black trousers and a couple of smart tops and a jacket. You might as well wait until you know where you'll be working (and the dress code) before you splash out on a whole new wardrobe.

Grooming (ie clean and tidy) is more important than fashion. You need to feel comfortable in yourself as well.

Have you looked at something like smartworks.org.uk ?

Good luck!

Get a black dress. Make sure its vneck but not too low cut. Wrap dress was mentioned before and that style would be perfect! Minimal jewellery. I say a dress because you will feel glam and that will make you feel more confident. Trousers wont flatter a large bum either. Make sure brows and hair are groomed well. Nails trimmed and clean. Nude polish is fine.

Good luck!

Thanks!!! I need to go and try things on I guess. So just keep it simple? Any particular brands that are good?
Not sure about a dress - I feel extremely self conscious and uncomfortable in dresses and skirts (something akin to people pointing and laughing).
Do you think one of those personal shopper things at debenhams or somewhere would help - do you have to buy or can you just get advice??

Right - just having a look....
waterfall cardigans/jackets - yay or nay?
also on cardigans - don't they just emphasis large boobs if undone and look frumpy if done up?
Is Debenhams fairly reliable - any brands to avoid?
I want to go for a fairly soft look rather than 'killer business barbie'
