House of Colours Personal Style Day

Has anybody had this done? Would you recommend it? I'm interested in people who have positive and negative experiences of it and why.

I had my colours done yesterday and have just had a big wardrobe clear out. Before going out and replacing it all I'm debating if its worth having the style day, although I am having a heart attack at the thought of spending £245 in total on all this HoC stuff.

I expected my colours session to be middle aged frumpiness but was really impressed with my style consultant- she was in her 30s and dressed still showing her personality in a cute dress, cardi and leggings combo, with not a silk scarf or bright thick shimmer lipstick in sight (but a bright gloss).

Not had it done but I know people who have been on one and they found it really useful and helpful but then they weren't confident about how to dress/style themselves.

How confident are you? Are you really stuck?

You may find it helpful looking at pinterest boards and pinning the outfits/looks you like and then working out what was about these that attracted you.

I kind of know that I'm an x - shape, so I know that it's lower necklines, a-line skirts, emphasising the waist etc. I know I should have a slim boot cut/ straight leg rather than a skinny to balance me out etc. I know I'm a 14/16 so too tiny a print can make me look bigger.

I tend to wear lots of cardies with vests underneath and knee length a-line skirts and jeans.

I wonder what else I would learn?

Definitely do it, in some ways its even more helpful than the colours day. Because getting the shapes and styles right matters so much to making your wardrobe work better. Its a fascinating and informative day and just answers so many questions (for me, anyway) and my shopping is so much more focused and successful. So, well worth the extra investment.
My only concern is that doing both very close together can be a bit of information overload!

Thanks Gillybobs. Not sure how I will justify the expense to DH as we are moving house too!

I really enjoyed mine despite being pretty confident before, and partic since having my colours done. No HUGE surprises but good advice, and really helpful in further improving my shopping technique and really accepting which are my best shapes and styles. Lots of lightbulb mine moments since - 'so that's why I never wore that expensive jacket' etc.

I agree with Gilly and charitygirl. The other piece I found interesting, going with a group of friends, was understanding what suited them and it finally clicking why certain things didn't suit me. It's given me "permission" (perhaps the wrong word) to give up on some things that will just never suit my body shape or personality.

I definitely buy far less clothes but those I do buy tend to work better for me.
