Tights.

So I (teacher) start back at work next week. A diktat came down from the governors about our dress code just before the end of term and leggings are banned forthwith.

One of my wardrobe staples is a smart dress and leggings underneath. Or smart tunic with leggings. Nice leggings, obv, and smart shoes.

Anyway, where are the very best tights to be had? I need them not shiny, very opaque and tough enough to withstand the morning DC scramble, dogs and a day of teaching. And with a crotch that won't end up around my mid thigh by the time I get to work.

TIA!

M&S do good tights. Otherwise Falke and Wolford are pricey but among the best. Oh and if it's still around, the Mary Portas range for House of Fraser are really good, I have several pairs that have lasted through months of hard wear

I cry tho when I attach my wolfords to a bit of Velcro (the cost!!) and I just don't think it's right to cry over tights. M&S tights really are good enough (buy a size up if you're anywhere near borderline) and don't make you cry at all.

M&S
Falke

my favourites

Whistles have done some okay ones in the past

cafecito · 28/08/2013 23:52

Oh, my favourite ever opaques have got to be the low waisted Spanx ones.
SO worth it.

In the winter months I live by the Primark 'super cozy' tights, believe it or not. I rip tights like nothing on earth but I have never yet ripped a pair of these. They are super thick, and have a fleecy layer on the inside which seems to stop them ripping. Honestly they're like 3 quid, give them a go. I've had m and s etc but always manage to rip them in no time. These are the closest tights to leggings I have found.

I have the same issue (also in a school) and that's why I get into knee high boots as soon as I can.

Clargo55 · 29/08/2013 00:09

Wolford every time. They are the best, but pricey. It is sad that my favourite thing in my wardrobe is these tights. They fit perfectly and never need pulling up.

conquita · 29/08/2013 07:12

The tights from here are great:

Thanks! Thanks

Asda do some good very thick ones, various deniers up and over 100 in some colours.

Rights on,y fall down if you have the wrong size on IMHO, if the size you wear has slippage to the next size up, then they won't be as stretched so more resistant to gravity!

MildredH · 29/08/2013 07:36

M&S autograph 100 deniers.. Pricey at £9 ish but last v well, wash well and nice colours.

Am sure am stating the obvious but if you wear boots you will be able to still wear your leggings tucked into some socks..

FreshLeticia · 29/08/2013 07:45

Hmm, I'd go leggings and socks too. Having said that, I agree that M & S are good, but Primark are good too - they do black, brown, navy and grey in 40 and 80 denier.
I always go a size up, I can't bear tight tights!
