Best way to colour stubborn greys

Hi, looking for some advice regarding hair colouring. Basically I have gone grey way before my time and I mean stubborn greys that don't get covered with home colour kits.

I have to colour about once a week to hide the grey so you can imagine my hair is so straw like. Anyway I want to know how I could get at least a month of colour before greys are visible again and not fading. Any suggestions?

Have been to a salon but had hair done by a junior and greys were not covered even then.

I am in a similar position, I use two packs of perfect 10 at a time and leave it on just slightly longer than suggested - it seems to work!

Really 2 packs that would be a lot of product. I always leave colour on hair for nearly an hour but still have greys.

Lifeofpo how long do you leave it on.

What brand of colour are you using may I ask?

Go to a salon in the first instance and get lots of foils to give your hair silvery/goldy highlights + an under colour (sorry hairdressers I don't have the actual correct lingo for this). Once your hair is lightened in a silvery/goldy way the grey will be less noticeable as it grows in. It is worth spending a bit of money on expertise for this stage. Take advice on colour from an expert/experienced hairdresser.
Thereafter you can re-do your own roots and only need hairdresser every 6-8 weeks and/or special occasions

Brand I use if Garnier nutrisse

I think expensive hairdresser apointments are the way forward :(

Are you using a garnier with a dark base colour?

UriGeller · 28/08/2013 16:08

Nutrisse does not work at all on my thick hair. I have to use nice n easy or that other one that looks like its for old ladies Blush

Right: I have naturally dark brown hair. I have been colouring my hair for prob about 10 years using hairdressers and now home hair colour. You name it I've tried it.

I colour my hair using Olia in the Deep Violet. It has a base shade of 3. These are the base shades you need to use anything lighter and it won't cover well. My roots come through at about four weeks after colouring.

I also use a tint brush to make sure the hair is covered around the hairline. You should not be having to colour your hair weekly.

Although most recommend only leaving the solution on for 25mins, you can leave it on for up to 45mins.
You could do a colour test (as detailed in the instructions) on one of your grey hairs and see how long it takes.
If you have some dark coloured build up on some of your length, put some dye solution on your root section, and then half way through the development time add more tocover the rest of your hair.
