Bobbi Brown Make-up lesson

I had one, I have been excited all week as I have saved up some money to get new nice make-up!

Turn up at the counter and the artists make up is amazing so I think great!

Well I never. Came out of there looking ridiculous! I had to go to the benefit counter in boots and ask for her to take it off for me and put done benefit stuff on as I didn't want to walk about with it.

The skin foundation was flakey and pale looking, the lip colour came off after less than an hour. Blusher was the shimmery kind which was horrid! My sister was in stitches once we left Hmm.

Anyone got any other ideas of where to try? I am starting to lose the will to live and thinking I will never find a good foundation!

Laura Mercier is good ( I've been twice - selfridges and harvey nicks)

I found clinique to be very good. I had my makeup done by one of their counters a few weeks before my wedding to get some ideas and loved it. The foundation was good (although they've since discontinued it) and the blusher and lipstick suited me so much I still use the same shades a few years later.

Space NK. They have lots of brands there but my absolute favourite is By Terry.

I think you should have a few different ones. I have had a few as I did my own make up for my wedding so spent a bit of time researching and having make overs!

My favourite was definitely at space nk, they use different brands so you feel like you are getting a more impartial recommendation. I thought BB were rubbish too. I have had a few at Clinique and think in general they are fine but they can make you a look a bit air hostess-y.

I think different brands are better for different things. I'm not great with foundations etc but I liked Laura Mercier best for general base stuff like tinted moisturiser, concealer etc. but there is quite a nice sheer base in the Clinique range, can't remember the name! I also quite like Estée Lauder double wear but the light version. I never wear foundation though, it's too much effort and I don't like the feel of it on my face. I keep meaning to try one of these mineral powders properly though.

MAC also do fab makeovers. I think you pay about £25 which is then redeemable against purchases. I bought all my wedding eye makeup from them. They were the ones who spent the most time assessing my skin tone and colouring.

So my advice is try a few, probably on different days. Maybe nip in on a Saturday morning, after work etc. don't buy anything there and then, I always say 'I'm going to see how it lasts thanks'. Then once you've had a chance to try lots of brands and compare you can decide what to buy.

Good luck!

It can vary according to the person too. I have had Bobbi Brown stuff done several times and it has looked lovely but had one occasion where the eyes were so dark I had to ask for it to be toned down
