No more jeans and trainers please

So am going back to college next week and I want to get out of the rut of jeans and trainers. I have been wearing the unflattering combo for about 10 years now and I need to update myself.

I am currently a 16-18 having lost weight this year so all my jeans look baggy arsed. I do like the false comfort you get with jeans as they seem to hold you in. However my excema can get quite bad and sweating in jeans sets it off horrendously. As I will be biking to college I don't fancy itching my legs all day.

I love all shoes and used to wear high heels everyday, unfortunately being fat meant high heels got precarious so I settled for cheap and comfy trainers. I would like some semi-smartish shoe, I hate ballet pumps, so something comfortable and again easy to bike in.

Please someon help, I'm not a dedicated follower of fashion but I don't want to look all mumsy and completely out of fashion

I love wearing dresses. They are easy as you don't have to choose a top and a bottom. I once read that they are the baby-gro of women's wear and that's how I feel about them. So comfy.

I think that you have to dedicate a day to going shopping. Wear easy to remove clothes and shoes and try lots of things on.

I love dresses too!!! actually have found tesco and asda are pretty good for dresses (I'm 16-18 tooGrin )
I also used to wear heels to but struggle now. I find boots I can go a little higher than shoes. I really like the sole survivor range at next

I have a few maxi dresses which I do love but I don't think I could cycle to college in them. I also have to wear something underneath as I have humongous legs.

I don't like fitted stuff too much as I have a lovely post 4 baby wobbly belly.

Yes to some shopping when the dc's are back at school. Must remember to stay away from the jeans section

I can't wear maxi dresses they look like a tent. knee length, v-neck wrap style works for me. Can't comment on cyclability of them as I am notorious for falling of bicyclesGrin

Tunic dressed and leggings?

Debs75 · 26/08/2013 16:33

I do like the look of tunic and leggings but mostly with long boots but I have muscly calves so can't get many to fit.

Oh might pop to Evans as they have bigger boots which could fit

Any suggestion on making proper shoes comfortable after years of trainers?

I have some ballet flats from next which are called sole survivor. I know next gets a bashing I here, but they are really comfortable. Wedge heels are also more comfortable than regular heels.

Instead of jeans, how about some skinny cords or coloured jeggings?

I find these sorts of jersey dresses from h&M comfy and look ok with tights or legging. I wear with ankle boots, brogues or ballet pumps.

Boots with rubber soles might be the answer. Like Dr Marten Elena.

Debs75 · 27/08/2013 21:19

I haven't worn Dr Martens for years, I used to love them, not keen on the almost £100 price tag

Updating: I went shopping and have some very comfy skinny cord jeggings. A nice tunic top, a tshirt and I did try on a dress. It was a fitted style, disgusting colour so would never wear it but it did fit lovely and I didn't look as bad as I thought I would. I may buy dresses in the future when I have lost a little more weight.
Just need to sort out shoes now but very happyGrin
