Anyone had any success controlling hormonal chin/jaw acne??

This is really getting me down, 35 years old now and currently look like a teenager with 5 lovely spots/lumps on the right side of my chin!
I normally just experience a breakout of one or two under skin lumps at the same time in my monthly cycle so I know it is definitely hormone related. These lumps can take forever to fade through and am frankly totally sick fed up of them and really want to sort it now. The only time I have been totally clear is during pregnancy and breastfeeding and feels a bit extreme to do it again for the sake of clear skin!
Am using la roche posay effaclar products and have doc appt tomorrow to request dianette.
Has anyone had success clearing it? Have read a bit about diet affecting hormones and ditching dairy as well as supplements but want to hear any others who have suffered and found something that worked before i waste more time/effort/money in vain!

Thanks everyone for your replies. GP took concerns seriously but felt it wasn't bad enough to warrant something like dianette and said as 35 and had been a (social) smoker pre kids then she wouldn't prescribe anyway due to risk of thrombosis. So, have been given zineryt, a topical antibiotic and asked to come back to review in 3 months.
I will definitely research the low carb/ GI option. I would be interested in the other health benefits of doing this, but not sure if I could commit to long term as am sure I read alcohol is a carb and I do love my wine!!
Have also read about the oil cleansing method and seriously considering this as the la roche posay products don't seem to have done anything and I feel I have nothing to lose. Anyone had any success using this?

Lurkingaround, your link is taking me to a bracelet website, do you have the correct one?

I used the gel for a while- is that the one you put on at night? I hope it helps you.

Cut out milk and now use soya milk. Not had a single lump under skin since doing this 😃

I used duac.. Really worked well but the only thing that has cleared it has been pregnancy. Before that.. Painful cysts. Hope you get it sorted... It is a pain

Low carb diet, lots of green veg, chicken / white fish and lots of water.

Mumelie · 26/08/2013 21:23

Good news about the antibiotic gel (sounds like the one I had).
I low carb but with occasional wine so it's not completely banished!

I noticed today that I hadn't used my concealer stick in weeks! amazing Grin

Oh sorry Blush ffs you'd think I would check before posting!

Not the greatest website but have a look around. There is more and more evidence that dairy is associated with acne in particular people. Definitely not a cure-all but worth noting, esp since you're on treatment, it'll all help.

lurkingaround · 26/08/2013 21:26

Tbh once you're on treatment your products don't make much difference. I would finish up the LRP stuff and then see. I haven't tried the OCM, as I have combination/oily skin, and couldn't bear any more oil on my face!

Thanks Travel, Can I ask what oil are you using?

Thesebootsweremadeforwalking · 26/08/2013 21:59

In desperation in the run-up to my wedding, I resorted to acupuncture. It worked, much to my surprise. The Chinese medicine practitioner I saw told me to avoid alcohol and spicy foods too, and I do notice that they bring on outbreaks now. I find sugar in excess does the same.

I only get on well with Clinique 3-step products, medicated ones just hurt and cheaper products like Simple leave me red and oily too. I think I might have quite sensitive skin/ eyes aside from the acne though.

I also find that I have to be careful about clothing, in particular high collars on wool coats rubbing against my jawline will definitely lead to an outbreak.

Thesebootsweremadeforwalking · 26/08/2013 22:04

Posted too soon - I have tried lots of different antibiotics plus dianette over the past 25 years and unfortunately I found that the problem came back when treatment stopped. Mine is pretty good these days but if I got a really bad bout again I'd try to scrape together the cash for more acupuncture if I could, and I am the least woo person you could imagine!

Also (and this really is my last post!) I'm reasonably sure that one of the antibiotics I used as a teenager may be to blame for my tinnitus.
