So why didn't my roots take?!!!

My natural hair colour is auburn- ish. I dye it a medium/dark chocolatey brown.

Had about an inch of re-growth, applied John Freida foam colour in Med Choc Brown this morning ( roots first method) & my roots are still auburn! Why? I don't have any grey! And I left it on long enough.

Been dying hair for years, not really had a problem with roots not taking, only with a semi before.

I don't want to re- colour again just yet (I'm forever colouring my hair!). Should I just revert back to nice n easy next time?

I'm not an expert but i've heard foam ones are less effective. I had this trouble once with a cream one though and i think it was because I dyed it after going for a run and the sweat stopped it taking properly. I used Garnier Olia last week (choc brown) and have been very impressed so maybe try that next time?

Thanks for your reply FauxFox, however I've also tried Olia before in the exact same shade & it washed out after two washes!

The only dye that took properly & seemed to last & 'adhere' to my roots, was a salon colour. But it's too expensive! I admit I'm not the best at applying colour to my roots, I find it a bit of a ball ache faffing on applying colour to my roots first then to the lengths but I don't want to be colouring my full head if hair every 4 weeks.

I think I'll just have to put up with the 'ginge' roots for a bit then try a nice & easy colour - see if that works, at least it use to!
