So what are people wearing on their heads to weddings these days?

Have a wedding to go to in a few weeks, church do followed by reception next door so not much outdoor time.

I haven't been to a wedding in aaages and while I have a nice dress (navy) and hopefully nice shoes (pewter) I have no idea what to do with my hair or put on my head.

Not sure I can be arsed with a hat and most fascinators I have seen are a bit rubbish - what are my other options?! My hair is just below shoulder length and I will probably wear it up as it tends to get a bit meh by the end of a long day if it is down.

Ideas greatly appreciated please! Smile

Depends on how formal the wedding is I think - - - if informal - wear nothing and just make your outfit and hair say it all . If it is formal you could always put a jewelled comb or clip in your hair when you put it up - there are some gorgeous hair accessories around at the moment. A hat is not essential these days - unless you respect the religious view . Fascinators are just horrid I think.!

I never wear anything on my head to a wedding as I look a right nob in a hat. How about up with a fancy hair slide?

archfiend · 24/08/2013 20:41

I think the wedding will be fairly formal - it's a family member getting married and the wedding is quite a big deal. Having said that, I can't be bothered to faff about with a hat so maybe a good comb/slide is the way to go.

So, apart from Accesorize (only local option) where can I buy lovely hair things from?!

I'm off to a fairly formal wedding next week. I won't be wearing any head gear. I have a really lovely dress and all the bits. I'll get a blow dry. Like dexter I feel I look daft in a hat. Even worse ina fascinator thingy.

MadBusLady · 24/08/2013 22:02

I look like a tit with stuff on my head. If it doesn't suit you, don't do it. I have done the rose-in-hair thing for a summer wedding, that was quite nice though it migrated to my shoulder in the course of drunken gesticulating

TallulahBetty · 24/08/2013 22:13

Nothing. Just do your hair fabulously.

LoopThePoop · 24/08/2013 22:15

Hair?

Just a nice blow dry.
The hats come off after the church anyway and anyone that has worn one ends up with 'hat hair'.

Meanwhile, fabulous blow dry is still fabulous ;)

Thank you all - I suspect there will be quite a lot of hats/fascinators at the wedding but I am going to stay with just hair and maybe a nice small, non-feathered thing to go in it.

I never wear hats as I wear glasses. With glasses, earrings and a hat my head would look far too cluttered.

Why not wear a lovely, snazzy pair of earrings instead?

MortifiedAdams · 25/08/2013 11:22

I roll mine up into a chignon and put a nice clip.on the side like this but not as big a clip.

I would use this up.the side of the chignon, so a fascinator.but not really on show. Mind, I cut the feathers off mine as am phobic.

Kezztrel · 25/08/2013 11:28

I've been to 5 (Shock) weddings this year, 4 of which were church ones (not sure if that makes them more formal?) and the majority of women weren't wearing anything on their heads - lots of nice up-dos though, or at least lovely sleek or curled hair. I don't think it's necessary nowadays at the average wedding. The bridal party women were all wearing hats or fascinators though.

archfiend · 25/08/2013 11:52

Thanks all. Can't wear earrings as the holes have closed up but I do have a lovely necklace I can wear.

I think some kind of chignon is the way to go, shall go and look at YouTube tutorials as my lack of skill and having ridiculously thick hair means I will need to practice a lot!

I've got a jewelled headband from New Look - works well for the "should have a hair accessory but can't be bothered with a huge one" attitude.
Hair down (its a short bob) and blowdried nicely. Job done.

sophiedaal · 25/08/2013 13:29

Another vote for a 'do, rather than a hat: I go to the hairdressers for a French pleat or a big blow dry, and stick a silk flower in it. Surprisingly, Tu at Sainsburys has had some very nice flower clips, about 1/3 the price of Monsoon.

Bunbaker · 26/08/2013 08:40

You can get some lovely clip on earrings these days.
