Bras. I just bought some based on the intervention method and they don't fit.

What am I doing wrong?

Is it just certain brands you can buy under these rules?

I measured correctly as far as I can tell. I bought 6 bras, by Esprit, CK, that sort of thing in Fenwicks today, in a 30 or 32 band and various cup sizes, and not one of them fits.

I didn't try them on as I had the children all with me...so they are going back tomorrow.

Not cross but just asking - is it only certain brands that will fit if you do it this way? I have always bought 36B or C and they seem to fit alright, but have measured and found I'm a 30, and 30 doesn't fit.

Help!

It didn't work for me either. I spent an hour trying on bras and the size suggested for me was far too big. The band was gaping.

Rooners · 26/08/2013 09:08

Hazle, that sounds like exactly what I did here Blush

I would have got FFs or even Fs if they had had any. I just presumed I'd be the same band width iyswim, whatever the cup size.

It's really common Rooners

Coco - what sort of size range are you? If the band was gaping using intervention method then surely anything fitted old style (+4 or 5) could have been tied in a knot so it would have been even more wrong?

HazleNutt · 26/08/2013 09:17

rooners as said, very common and yes, will make the band feel too tight. Try to find those Fs or start with a G just to see what a too big cup looks like, the band will feel very different.

DontActuallyLikePrunes · 26/08/2013 09:18

I have tried it a couple of times - going in and trying on a dozen bras at a time in various combinations of lower band size and cup size.
I have never found one that doesn't give me hideous back hamsters, and the cups range from laughably voluminous (if I choose size acc to the guidelines given on these threads) to just voluminous.
It's possible I'd be better supported if I worked and worked to get one of these 34s to fit, but we are talking hours that I don't have, plus, frankly, I think gaining back hamsters is a backwards step for me.

Sorry, that's no help, but negative results matter too Smile

I think I'll try TKMaxx and see what they have got in Smile

Any excuse for a mooch there.

I'm also a doubter, OP. I usually wear a 36B, occasionally a 34. The intervention method would have me in a 30 band.

I have one 32D bra, recommended by an underwear fitter just by looking. I tried it, my tits looked great in it so I bought it. However, I find it incredibly uncomfortable (and it is old now, so I have had plenty of time to get used to it). When I wear it I find I rip it off as soon as I come through the door when I get home. I can't imagine how awful a 30 would feel (if I could even get it done up).

I'll stick to my 36Bs.

StatisticallyChallenged · 26/08/2013 09:42

Just a suspicion eurochick, but if you usually wear a 36B it could be that the 32D is a little too small in the cup. It's the sister size to the 36B, but IME sister sizing doesn't tend to work for more than one band size.

On me, 1 cup size too small isn't that visible (unless I wear something really tight),but having tried bras 1 cup apart it can make the bands feel too small. It might be worth trying say a 32DD just to see if it still feels tight to you.

We're always saying that any tape measurement is only ever a starting point and never as good as going to somewhere like Bravissimo. But it is, in general, better than anything M&S come up with. But bras are a precision fit garment really - it's a bit like trying to find jeans that fit properly. I did that yesterday, and in a lot of ways they are very like bras in that a very small difference in the cut (bigger hip:waist ratio, higher rise, wider thighs...whatever) can mean that one pair fit beautifully and another pair in the same size don't go past my knees. I expect to try on 20+ pairs of jeans to find one that fits. Bras are worse if anything.

HazleNutt · 26/08/2013 09:52

it could be just that bra - I have several that are the right size, but the wrong shape for my boobs.

Parmarella · 26/08/2013 11:59

Yes all brands vary, I only fit CK or Marie-Jo perfectly in 34c

I wear the 34 band despite measuring 30, partly as I do not wear a bra for support ( small boobs, not yet sagging at all) but mainly for modesty, iykwim.

I understand those requiring a proper lift would be looking for sonething different in a bra.

For me, a perfect bra feels almost as if I amnot wearing one, defo donot want any tightness!

Bra intervention probs best for the large of breast?

piratecat · 26/08/2013 15:43

Fantasie Bras are brilliant. Especially their balcony ones not the full cup ones. This does not mean you will have orbs under your chin, they just look better as they flatten the side of the breast more.

I recommend Helena, Cally and Belle. Unfortuantely they hard to find, Debenhams have a few in, but often not the balcony style.

Using the intervention method i measure perfectly in Fantasie. I use to work for Rigby and Peller too, so know my onions/melons. They sell fantasie bras but charge alot for them, so i go to ebay for them.

great for bigger cups Fantasie.

Fairylea · 26/08/2013 15:47

I doubt you're going to find any half decent bras in a size 30ff / g in tk maxx.

(I may be wrong however).

Why not order some from bravissimo online? You cab always send them back. Try the panache tango balconette, bravissimo Alana and freya deco. I am a similar size to you and they are my personal favourites.
