I am debating what to wear on a night out .

I'm short and a size 10. I tend to wear short dresses. Usually fit and flare. Also skinny jeans with loose silky tops.

bishboschone · 24/08/2013 17:41

Thanks .. Do you not find that your 'thin ' bit as I call it ( my to cage and waist ) gets lost under loose tops ? I like that look but always feel bigger when wearing it as my bottom is very curvy.

Wiggle dresses or sarong dresses, very fitted but cut on/below the knee so not too revealing.

This dress is currently the most flattering one in my collection, and is suitable for lots of different things.

This one is also very flattering, but less versatile and more delicate so I only wear it to restaurants and parties.

Trashy Diva and Vivien of Holloway do nice things which are similar.

i like a glitzy shift dress - im to old for skater flare dresses - and tbh i've yet to see a nice one.

ohms11 · 24/08/2013 17:43

I'm the same. 5'2/ 8.5 stone/ size 8 to 10. Most important thing for me is to define my waist. Shift dresses are too straight up and down. I agree with Mamafratelli about fit and flare/ skater style dresses. They really flatter this type of figure. I have also had compliments on a pencil skirt and silk blouse combo.

BeenieBaby · 24/08/2013 17:45

Agree- skater dresses are the best and a huge part of y wardrobe.

ArgyMargy · 24/08/2013 17:45

Close fit shift dresses, high heels. Or long silky trousers with heels and fitted top. Never anything obvious around the waist as it cuts me in half and makes me look short. No flared skirts or peplums - makes my arse look huge.

BOF · 24/08/2013 17:46

The nude.

Well fitted shift dresses with very little / no detail at waist, look for scoop or v or neck detail, avoid simple high neck, or if otherwise ok then jazz up the earrings. I prefer short jackets that sit just below the waist, no bpeplum, as long length seem to swamp me.

15thnamechange · 24/08/2013 17:58

bought This the other day, looks lovely on hourglass dd

chebella · 24/08/2013 18:43

I sound similar build and prefer either shortish tailored body/flaring skirt dresses or ankle length form fitting dresses - contrary to popular belief I find block colour long line dresses make me look taller, either with flat sandals (but glam- leather and a little metal work) or I'd cold/wet ankle boots/tights. Agree with concern that voluminous tops lose the 'good' slim bit; I think it was Kate Moss who said always wear something fitted/tailored on your top if that's a positive feature for you.

Lavenderhoney · 24/08/2013 21:25

I wear a fitted dress with heels or a pencil skirt with a fitted t shirt and heels. I don't wear flared stuff as I quite like the hour glass look and if I wear flared things I am wary of looking like a mushroom and / or pregnant! I always wear high heels ( not platforms or anything chunky, makes me look like Minnie Mouse :)

Where are you going? Do you have to be smart from work or will jeans be ok?

bishboschone · 25/08/2013 08:39

It was just a pub with friends , in the end I wore a navy vest maxi dress and cropped denim jacket and tan leather
Sandals as it was pretty low key but very interesting to read what suits others my size . Whilst defining my waist is important , if I wear something too fitted my bum can look huge as
My waist is very small. I bought the vest dress a size bigger to eliminate that problem . ( hopefully )

On a night out, a fitted or belted dress. As mention by other posters fit and flare is a great cut.
For something more casual a scoop necked or v necked fitted top with high waisted shorts or skirts. With a blazer or biker jacket.

I'm 5ft2, size 8-10 with a largish bust.
