Do you wear a sunhat?

TinyGang · 16/06/2006 13:44

After all, we're always on at the children to wear one.

I'd like to but caps make me look like a schoolboy, and everything else makes me look like a bonkers hippie or overdressed, like I'm going to a wedding.

Any suggestions? (Other than a paper bag on my headGrin)

no

JackieNo · 16/06/2006 13:45

Same problem as you, so no Blush, I don't. Kids always do.

busybusybee · 16/06/2006 13:46

I have been on the look out for a nice sunhat - one that is neither a cap or a wedding hat

Im still looking!

southeastastra · 16/06/2006 13:46

i don't understand why children have to have them, i mean don't we lose heat from the top of our heads? my son always takes his off.

how about the ones that just have a band with a visor on it, i quite like those!!

PanicPants · 16/06/2006 13:53

Yes i do, otherwise I get headaches in the sun.

crunchie · 16/06/2006 14:07

I once got sunburn along my parting!! That was v v painful, so now I tend to wear a bandana when I am on holiday which cover DD's do too, but sometimes they wear hats with visors so keep the sun out of their eyes, whereas I wear sunnies. DH wears an aussie hat, which sometimes nick too. I also will take a straw cowboy hat on hols this year, just cos they look cool with a swimsuit and sarong :)

MrsBadger · 16/06/2006 14:09

I wear a man's slightly Panama-ish straw hat - something linke \link{http://www.jameslock.co.uk/prod2.taf?groupId=100262&_UserReference=5BD0740A4B0202534492AB1E\this} but in straw not Panama. Looks mildly unusual but actually suits me. V handy for shading eyes as I haven't got round to buying prescription sunglasses yet.

Originally bought it for honeymoon in Egypt - DH wears a waxed cotton bush hat so together we looked like a pair of 19th century explorers!

southeastastra · 16/06/2006 14:15

that is very sophisticated mrs badger, a beautiful hat!

Kelly1978 · 16/06/2006 14:20

I got a cheapie one out of asda the other day and it looks rather nice on. Bit like a trad boys sunhat, with the rim all the way round, but the sides are ruched and in in in light brown. Was rather pleased with myslef.

MrsBadger · 16/06/2006 14:22

well it's not actually that one, SEAstra - did you see the price?!

yorkshirelass79 · 16/06/2006 14:24

I'd love to be able to wear sunhats but I just look ridiculous in any kind of hat! Sad

southeastastra · 16/06/2006 14:25

oh yes! still a great design

TinyGang · 16/06/2006 18:11

Hmm - I like the panama but I don't think it's me. Mind you I haven't tried one, so I'll have a go if I see one.

Hey, I could get one and hang corks on it?! Maybe notGrin

Keeps the sun off my face and stops me squinting in the bright sun.

moondog · 16/06/2006 18:25

Yes,now that I am 39 and don't wish to look like a cat's arse.
Also F50 sunblock.

Lemmingswife · 16/06/2006 18:25

No, I don't do hats!

NotQuiteCockney · 16/06/2006 18:28

I always wear hats. Winter and summer.

It does make it easier to get the kids to wear hats. Now if only DH would wear a hat in summer ...

peachyClair · 16/06/2006 18:37

sometimes, a chocolate brown small brimmed straw type number (sort of straw crochet hybrid), £4 in Woolies.

Never

jstbcs · 16/06/2006 19:05

i'd like one of those indie hats ala liam gallagher, but cant find one in red anywhere...

TinyGang · 17/06/2006 21:36

Well I tried a straw sort of panama one on today and it looked pretty good surprisingly. Still not sure if I've got the bottle to wear one though, I reckon it'd draw comments on me. Maybe not school run style for meGrin

Never without one - winter or summer. At first I was very self-conscious about wearing hats, and chose the plainest and smallest I could find, but now I've got the taste for them, and some years they're quite flamboyant. One year I had a wide-brimmed white 'straw' hat with daisies embroidered on the crown in fluorescent multi-coloured rafia. Another year I had a fabric hat that seemed to be folded up on itself around the crown, with a stiff little brim all the way around.

Once you get used to wearing hats regularly, they become quite part of you. We only feel self-conscious because they're uncommon nowadays.

PrettyCandles · 17/06/2006 21:42

And I do get comments, very frequently. Mostly they're complimentary, but occasionally they're teasing and I choose to misunderstand them and beam back as if I've been complimented.

Mascaraohara · 17/06/2006 21:54

Yes but like PC I love hats! shop around for one that really suits you and enjoy! you do feel a bit self conscious to start with but you soon don't think twice about it.
