Hi all,

Heads up for those contemplating electrolysis. I had a session and wasn't very happy. Girl didn't seem to know what she was doing. I didn't go back and frankly it out me off. Would prefer to save up and go for laser. Still can't work out from the bumpf if it is removes permanently.

Shock is that my normal many decades removal method ( depil cream)will not work properly. It leaves a shadow growth. Have changed brands. They all worked perfectly before the electro session.

Given time thought this might change - no luck. Any ideas to help? . I don't want to shave upper lip and its SOO embarrassing at social events
. Blush

I use the facial wax strips. They are small so it's easy for the upper lip. Make sure you rub them in your hands for a good minute before using because they work better when they are warm. Then I use one for one side and one for the other. Put one from the middle and smooth outwards then stretch your cheek with one hand to make the skin on the lip tighter, with the other hand quickly rip off the wax strip in the opposite way (from the outside to the middle), then repeat on the other side. I do mine once every 3 weeks and it grows back really soft probably softer than hair removal cream. Hope this helps x

Threading? An teach yourself from YouTube. Bit fiddly at first but good for lady 'tache.

PoshPenny · 22/08/2013 13:48

I used to get my facial hair waxed, now I get it threaded. Much Better Smile

I'm currently being lasered - I've had 6 sessions and the hair is less but I need more :(
Before this I waxed at a salon.
Electrolysis is I believe the only permanent removal method - laser may need top ups in the future.
What has been hard is my regrowth in between sessions - you have to shave to have laser treatment and my stubble is sadly very impressive :(

lottieandmia · 22/08/2013 15:11

Electrolysis is very difficult to do well - you need to be very experienced and if you had someone who did a bad job you should speak to the salon manager and asked for a refund or for someone else to do it. No point going through the pain if it won't work.

I have saved up tesco vouchers and traded them in for sk:n vouchers which do laser treatments. I paid for my upper lip and even 2 months in I've been impressed enough to trade in the vouchers for underarms. Apparently they have loads of tesco customers.

alwaysrunninginheels · 22/08/2013 20:22

They say that it nothing works permanently but it's just an occasional top up session so I figure that's worth it. 8 sessions for face. 6 for body.

FlyingDonkeys · 27/08/2013 00:47

Thanks all - will try threading tomorrow and then strips. Can't go back to salon- that was a while back. I thought it would get better in a month or two.

Do you have to shave before laser?

holidaysarenice · 27/08/2013 00:56

So if I shave it, laser it, then can I pluck any regrowth between lasers?

My hair doesn't grow except for immediately after my period? Does this mean laser is out, or is it hormonal and what would help?

Sorry for the hijack!

FlyingDonkeys · 27/08/2013 17:44

Been reading about epilators. They sound promising except that if you start you can never go back to shaving.

I have used creams on my upper lip like jolene brand, but there has been incidences where the cream has felt like it was burning and usually leaves a red mark, which usually occurs when waxed or threaded..which I've also had done!Threading usually more effective than waxing, I get eyebrows threaded regularly although it seems I have stubborn hair which grows back very quickly. Often its hard to find a procedure which works which will help it grow back lighter, or less frequently. I have pale skin with dark hair so for myself the hair on upper lip can be visible, even if only to me! I am considering laser hair removal however, and for my underarms, as I am quite content with wax for legs and bikini for the mean time. Although it all seems to cost a lot for all these beauty treatments, the smaller more embarrassing areas I want to tackle first. I just read up on a bit of laser hair removal with this company. I'm not sure what to expect, i'm hoping as it is a smaller area it is easier to manage although does require going back for a few sessions.

Seems that laser is not as permanent as electrolysis. Had threading today but upper lip is still not good. This is crazy as before electrolysis never had a problem win creams :(

I have been having threading on my facial hair Blush for about 9 months now. Every 6 weeks. just got back from a session and I swear there's less and less hair to deal with and it's finer. I've always had ishoos with facial hair tried electrolysis which did bugger all other than cost a lot, not tried laser admittedly. I think this is the best solution for me in about 30 years of trying stuff.

PoshPenny · 30/08/2013 18:05

Forgot to add I thought laser was generally most effective on dark hair like armpit bikini rather than face

mrspaddy · 30/08/2013 18:05

I got laser.. Applisonix I think it was.. Two years ago. Was expensive but worth it.

FlyingDonkeys · 04/09/2013 09:30

Thanks all - got some threading done. I guess laser is best on light skin and dark hair. The contrast is greatest then. I can't bear the idea of shaving upper lip between sessions of laser so will stick with threading. Which is an utter bore - especially when travelling.

Mrs Paddy - Did you have to shave inbetween laser sessions. How long did it take?

Reading with interest as i have a top lip problem....And sorry to hijack the post. Whats the difference between IPL and laser....reading up on the SK:IN website, they says laser is better (but then thats the one they offer!) had a consultation locally but it was for IPL and i was too tanned to have it done anyway. Can anyone recommend SK:IN?

fooolofbeans · 04/09/2013 15:47

this may seem a bit crazy, buuuuut, i epilated my face last night Shock
cheeks, side burns, moustache, chin, outer eyebrows, AKA 'the lot'

hurt like buggary till i realised if i pulled the skin taut it was only mildly uncomfortable

followed it up with sudocrem mixed with aloe vera, was terrified i'd waake up massively broken out this morning, but no, all is well

will repeat tonight to get the last, this is revelatory in my world 'cos i have ALWAYS been paranoiod of my beardy facial hair Grin
