Getting acne in your mid 40s!!!!!!! Is there no justice?`

I have started getting acne in my hairline and around my neck. I never had acne as a teen, although did get pimples.

Has anyone else had acne appear in their mid 40s? Is it a hormonal thing? Whilst feeling uncomfortable, I can deal with the hair ones, but the neck ones are grim. Just seems so wrong.

I feel fraudulent going to the GP about them, is there any cream I can use?

In answer to your question, no, there is no justice.
Probably hormonal related. If you're on a progesterone-only contraceptive (Mirena, Implant etc) it could be that.

Don''t feel frauduent going to your GP! It is a real concern for you. These spots can be big and leave scars. I would visit. You could end up with all sorts of advice at cosmetic counters which may or may not be right, and spend a fortune on products. There are plenty of prescribable products that will be far more effective.

So unfair! Happened to me too. I'm 45. Would start with a visit to GP just to check all is OK, don't feel guilty in the slightest. If it is a hormonal issue a low GI eating plan can often help. Also, if you don't already have one and you can spare the cash, do get a Clarisonic. My skin is now better than it was at 35 or 25! Good luck.

I am on Tamoxifen which contributes to acne on my jaw and neck. Currently using Differin and Derma T which seems to be working.

Go to your GP - there's some reason for this appearing (probably hormonal).

I'm not on anything at all, other than iron supplements (which I've been on for years).

I presumed it was a peri-menopause kind of thing. I can't imagine what the GP would check - but I suppose it may be worth going. It is just such a faff getting to my GP, it will really annoy me, if I go & she says "Mmmmm, yes, probably a peri-menopausal thing PBB - it will pass".

I can feel another one coming up just under my jaw. They are so deep & rarely come to a head. Horrible things.

There will probably be something that they can prescribe that will help - I've had acne and rosacea on and off forever (when not on an oestrogen type pill), sometimes get topical ABs which can help clear it up.

Acne is very common in peri meno- like it is at puberty.
It's hormonal and you need prescribed drugs of some sort.
