Talk to me about knickers

Sorry for hideous subject but I'm out of ideas. I need new underwear, both day to day and fancy, but I have no idea what style. I went straight from skinny thing types to mummy big covering up pants post c section. I've lost some weight and want something more flattering but I have no idea what style or brands to get. I'm a 16 with an apron (thanks DC!) so nothing that sits low down but at the same time I don't want granny high waisted things (like I'm currently wearing!!)

Watching with hope as I'm desperate too (though have never worn skinny knickers). If someone can suggest something that will smooth that c section ridge to flatten my tummy I'd be grateful too!
I saw some 'flattening Brazilian' knickers in marks but wondered if they would be uncomfy, and if they really would flatten my huge tummy

I think uniqlo are great for knickers. They are not skimpy at all but manage to avoid looking totally grannyish, though I wouldn't exactly describe them as pulling pants! I have pants from all over the place (lots from Victoria's Secret which you can know get without trip to USA as another idea), but if there are uniqlo ones in drawer they are invariably what I put on unless I'm wearing a short top and very low rise jeans in which case they are a little visible!

Markies have some pretty ones in their 3 for £10 range. They sit nicely on my tummy and don't roll down.

Chopsypie · 21/08/2013 15:42

Big enough to tuck into buy small enough that I don't feel 60?

I though uniqlo stopped at 14/16?

Ill have a look, thanks for the advice

Fantasie savannah WEARABLE AND FANCY

carrie74 · 21/08/2013 16:18

Oh, I don't know if I can help - my pants are purely a must-have purchase - they're all cute, and some are quite fancy, but comfort is the biggest driver for me. In the search for pants that don't move, I found the best are American brands - unfortunately, M&S just doesn't cut the mustard for em anymore. All of my pants are currently from Victoria's Secret (bought in US, don't know if you're near a UK outlet?), but prior to that they were Gap, and also very good (but less selection).

I'm a 10 and wear the xs uniqlo knickers. Their sizing is generous so pretty sure you would be fine in medium or large.

Lioninthesun · 21/08/2013 21:04

I've deviated to Primark. I know it sounds odd (and there are some pretty horrible leopard print and 'Princess' slogan ones so ignore those) but I found a 5 pack of bikini briefs and a 3 pack of really soft briefs with lace on the leg/top and cotton body both for £4 I think. I used to be a M&S fan but their bras are crap and they are too pricey to go for an unmatched set. Plus their pants sometimes have that horrid seam in the middle of the crotch thing, purely designed to give you an intimate wedgie if you deign to sit down.

littlemisswise · 21/08/2013 21:35

I find these really comfortable.

MrsAlwaysRight · 21/08/2013 21:44

Marking place - was thinking about starting a similar thread the other day!

BumPop · 21/08/2013 21:59

Marking place too as I have exactly the same issue, although maybe a couple of sizes bigger. Sad

OP - would you consider lacy boy shorts.? I like the m&s ones, basically cotton shorts with a lace trim. Covers everything, but still girly.

Chopsypie · 22/08/2013 09:33

Bum pop - I don't mind shorts but its not my bum that's a problem it's my belly! They need to come up high enough that I can tuck my belly in (gross, I know!) Or it just hangs over the top!Confused

I tend to go to M&S and like the lacey boy shorts but not if they are too low rise. I hate anything that isn't cotton and you have to watch now as alot of the briefs are not.

I really like 'proper' underwear sets from Freya/Aubade/Lejaby etc - there's always some thong/brazillian option, but usually a lovely pair of proper shaped pants that come up higher than teeny weeny bikini pants. Of course, they re £££ so more of a special occasion thing...

MrsAlwaysRight · 22/08/2013 16:10

Allthingspretty I like the look of the savannah but would they come high enough to tuck tummy in?!

mysteryfairy do the uniqlo ones come up high enough to prevent tummy overhang?!

Thanks
