Blusher. Lots of it!

madamecake · 19/08/2013 09:04

Don't put mascara or eyeliner on your lower lashes/lid. Makes you look more tired!

Dot of white eyeshadow on the inner corner of your eye.

Really pale lilac eyeshadow always worked for me. Think I had a mac one but can't remember the name. Sounds a bit 80s but didn't look it at all (or maybe I was too tired to care!)

I look far more awake if I curl my lashes, use a beige shimmery eyeshadow in the inner corner of my eyes (I use MAC Phloof! for that) and use highlighter and blusher.
Concealer to hide dark circles.

DrinaDancesInParis · 19/08/2013 11:22

Try Boing Industrial Strength Concealer and Ooh La Lift for dark circles. I usually use Boi-ing on its own, but I add Ooh La Lift for days when I look like I've been up all night (or actually have.)

Then agree with SundaySimmons a dot of white in corner of your eyes can work wonders. I use this in white.

I read somewhere that if you know you won't get enough sleep in advance (cranky baby, stressed etc) then break open an evening primrose capsule and rub the oil into your face before you go to bed, and it will prevent that "grey skin" look!

Hope you get some zzzs...

Tidy your eyebrows and put a little pale, matt eyeshadow on the brow bone under the brow.

Pale skin coloured eye pencil (Une do them) along inner lower eye-rim.

Nice flush of pinkish blusher.

Agree on minimal eyeliner under the eyes.

Not too much face powder or mattness - can be deadening.

Colour on the lips.

A light fake tan on your face

A pink cream blusher

Mucho mascara

Make sure your brows are defined

Gloss

Pixi do a liner for inner lower lid to make you look brighter. Don't buy it, it's a complete waste of money, looks no different unless you put loads on and if you do puts loads on it works it's way up and gathers in the lashes. Not a good look!

FizzyFeet · 19/08/2013 22:31

A bright lipstick in a shade that suits you. Was shocked when I tried it after years of paying more attention to my eyes. And plenty of blusher as mentioned up thread!

MairzyDoats · 19/08/2013 22:37

I was about to say lipstick every time! For me anyway, it totally transforms my face. I prefer something semi-matt, or a lip pencil smudged over lipbalm. I've read that they work best a couple of shades darker than your own lip colour.

A good glowy foundation - the rest is all good too, but a glowy skin is the best route. YSL touché éclat, Chanel Vitalumiere or Bourjois Healthy Mix all good and dewy. No powder. That and lippy and I can look vaguely human when sleep deprived and dehydrated.

NomDeOrdinateur · 19/08/2013 23:43

Mix a blob of this with your foundation. Works especially well with Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation - gives you a healthy glow without making you look sweaty or greasy, and lasts all day. As others have said, avoid over-powdering - tap the brush before applying, and just put it where you need it.

For eyes, keep make-up minimal. Max Factor Masterpiece liquid eyeshadow in pearl beige on your browbone and in lilac on your lids will make you look much more awake, and it's both v subtle and vv long lasting. Use a light hand with your eyeliner and mascara, and (if poss) curl your lashes before applying mascara as it will make your eyes look bigger/more open.

As somebody has said above, Benefit Boi-ing concealer is fantastic - it's very pigmented so you only need the tiniest amount, which means it and won't settle noticeably in the creases under your eyes.

Keep your make-up as minimal as possible - use a light hand with your foundation and build it up only where you really need it, as your real skin looks fresher even if it's not perfect. Real Techniques Stippling Brush or Expert Face Brush would really help with this. Blush should be quite natural-looking - I like Boots No7 in Soft Damson or Candy Pink. For lips, try Vaseline Rose Tinted Lip Balm, or just regular Carmex - you may find that going without proper lipstick adds to the fresh/youthful effect and makes you look more awake.

Also - there are things you can do easily which will make far more difference than make-up, besides improving sleep:

  • 20 mins exercise per day - I use Jillian Michaels's 30 Day Shred DVD, and saw a difference in my skin within days of starting.
  • Diet - lots of steamed veg and fresh fruit will help, as should increasing your water intake and decreasing your fizzy/caffeinated drinks intake.
  • Skincare - a gentle but thorough cleansing routine (I use coconut oil and warm water to remove make-up) and night time moisturiser (I'm currently using Bio Oil with good effects, but I know it doesn't agree with everyone). It might also be worth looking at Bravura London's skincare products - my DH always notices when I've been using their 15% Glycolic Acid night cream, it makes me look much younger, healthier and more "alive".
