Please share your address book secrets with me for hairdressers who do a great, long, layered cut.

I've just had a new 'do and two days in, after I've washed it, I hate it. I know, it'll grow, but where do I go next time? I keep my hair long - sort of shoulder length, and layered. My hair is very thick and straight so it needs shaping. One length just doesn't work anymore on me. I feel like I need shape around my face as it's a bit pudgy these days, but I don't seem to be able to get the right balance. Either hairdressers are too tentative and the shaping gets lost in the mass, or they go mad chopping at it, and I end up with a very unflattering mushroom shape at chin level like I have now. If I pull the few remaining longer bits into a ponytail I have a heavy bob!

Moan over! Where should I go when it's grown a bit? I'm based in London and could travel a bit - it would be worth it for a great hairdo. As for budget, well, I guess anything goes - I'm fast concluding that if I can't get my hair right I'll never be pleased with the rest!!

Headmasters. I know it's a chain but the stylists really do listen (unlike Toni & Guy imho) and if you can afford one of the top stylists I am certain they'll do a great job!

Thanks Mogwai. Which branch do you go to?

Hebe on The Strand is wonderful - I always see Sam, but the staff there are all lovely and do great work. I had a big restyle (cutting my hair off for charity) and got a bit emotional but they were super, and the other stylists all chat to me if I pop in. DP goes too (although sees anyone who is free) and even though he struggles to articulate what he wants they seem to understand him!

My hair is thick and long - I feel your pain!

Thanks OldRoan I will add it to my list!

Tim Fursedonn Neighbourhood Earl's Court. Amazing.

John Frieda always gave me great cuts (can't afford now but assume they are still good - used to go to Mount St branch).

I now go to Wandsworth but over the years I've also visited East Sheen, Putney and Mayfair.
My friend goes to Soho and she's got similar hair to yours. She used to go to Nicki Clarke til they double booked her and she wandered into Headmasters on the off chance. Same cut for a third of the price and she never went back Wink

I strongly recommend Pierpoint in Soho - lovely guys who listen, not a chain hairdresser.

Aveda, Covent Garden. Also like Charles Worthington.
