I would go out tonight....

Help needed please - I have NO clothes to wear!

I had a baby 8 weeks ago (DC5) and am still wearing my maternity clothes because my pre pregnancy clothes are a size too big.

I am 35, 5.3" and a size 16, so curvy and with big boobs. I have a bit of a tummy but my legs are nice. I have no confidence shopping any more and have no idea what's trendy etc. All the fun has gone out of it for me but I'm desperate to look nice again - I feel so mumsy and frumpy.

I have a high street budget and really would be so grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of a few wardrobe staples to get me started. The only thing I've bought recently is one of those lovely waxed jackets from Tesco.

Are you bfing?

Onesleeptillwembley · 17/08/2013 23:17

Sorry, no help, but feel the need to tell you off, OP. I can't get bloody Morrissey out of my head.

Phwoarblimey · 17/08/2013 23:18

Your baby is 8 weeks old! Enjoy the cuddles, they will be gone before you know it...

Plan to go out at Christmas or something instead, it'll be here before you know it, don't squander this precious time, please.

DifferentNow · 17/08/2013 23:38

Nagoo yes, am breastfeeding.

Onesleeptillwembley Grin

Phwoarblimey you're right, it flies by I know but I do really need some stuff to wear. My maternity trousers are all slipping down my arse when I walk! I'm hoping that you're all going to tell me what to go and buy so that I don't have to spend lots of time wandering round the shops looking lost and returning home again with nothing. Smile

Do you prefer the vest-up-and-down or -whap-it-out-of-a-shirt technique? :o

Unfortunately your primary need is going to be access, then we think about pretty..

Do you like dresses? Or jeans? Describe 'you' when you aren't being mumsyfied...

DifferentNow · 17/08/2013 23:55

I don't have a preference for breastfeeding access. I'm not self-conscious about it and would just use a muslin or something to cover up if I felt a bit too much of me was on show.

I like dresses because I'm particularly bad at picking out tops but equally am comfortable in jeans. I've never been super-trendy but like to look stylish and classy I suppose. I'm a SAHM so my clothes need to be pretty functional but I don't have anything 'nice' to wear for a night out either.

Anyone? Smile

Ok - trying to be helpful - you still have time to find things in the Toast sale very reduced. If you have the patience to browse online. They may not be your normal style but might suit your current needs.

Downfall · 18/08/2013 11:43

Aww, different don't want to leave you hanging, bum out Wink. I'm definitely not a great s&b advice giver, but I remember the same problem with jeans, especially when still got the post preg jelly belly needing a larger size than my actual waist.

How about jersey tube skirts, plenty around on the high street, I like the DP ones at under £20. Length would be mid calf on your height i think, but i like that look with flats and boots. Wear them with a vest top and a looser tee/sweatshirt/shirt over, add cardi and tights for cooler days. I find these skirts very easy to wash and wear, no ironing, and they stay put on your waist!

DifferentNow · 18/08/2013 13:23

Thanks Somethingyesterday and Downfall. Will check out those skirts in DP's and have a look on the Toast site. Think that's part of the problem - that I'm not even sure where to be looking these days.

Eh phwoar-op asked for fashion advice on a fashion forum not a lecture on when to leave her baby for a night outHmm

I am a sahm op and I live in dresses. I like a retro/vintage look so wear a lot of swing/tea dresses with leggings or tights and always have a flower clip in my hair.

I think dresses are so easy to wear.Just find one to suit your shape then either add a cardi, denim jacket, blazer etc. In winter add your wax coat, leggings and boots and your good to go.

Somethingyesterday · 18/08/2013 13:33

The Toast stuff is generally huge, so try a size down. I hope you'll find something you like.

DifferentNow · 18/08/2013 13:43

I've just realised how the thread title might have misled those not familiar with Morrisey Smile I'm looking for everyday stuff really as opposed to night out clobber. My social life is pretty limited at the best of times but I doubt I'll be going anywhere without DD for the next 6 months or so.

Or The Smiths even.

Pinupgirl I like that style too. I think that 3/4 sleeve wrap dresses suit my shape.

Love your thread title. Really made me smile.

I am in a similar place to you- new baby and little ones.

Just had a trip to Uniqlo to buy some cheap jeans to last me until the baby weight comes off. Feel on trend and comfortable without breaking the bank. I get my moneys worth from jeans. Also picked up a few plain tops there and in Zara sale. They won't last but nothing will at the moment as it gets pulled (breast feeding) and washed over and over (sicky baby).
