word of warning - foot files and buffers

EdwiniasRevenge · 17/08/2013 21:37

Don't use a hard skin foot file/buffer and then get straight in the shower!

Bought a soap and glory foot buffer thing to sort out my dry cracked callused feet.

Sat and filed a mountain of dry skin off my feet before having a shower. I was slipping and sliding all over the place on my newly polished feet. They do look and feelgood though. Just need to get some heavya duty moisturiser on them over the next few days to finish them off.

To maintain your now soft feet, once a week at bedtime, slather on foot cream and wear a pair of cotton trainer socks over the top.

No need for foot files if you exfoliate with a towel after every shower and bath and regularly moisturise your feet including wearing cotton socks every now and then at night.

Another cautionary tale-

Be careful in the shower after using cream.
I occasionally rub Vaseline on my feet and put socks on.
No problem.

Once I rubbed Liz Earle Superbalm (I hate lavender and thought "Well it's on my feet. I can't smell it" , put on the socks.

Next day in the shower I slipped right on my backside

valiumredhead · 18/08/2013 00:03

I always file after showeringGrin

timidviper · 18/08/2013 00:24

Slight change of subject but I have a patch of thick skin under the ball of one foot and bought a Scholl hard skin remover liquid which is amazing. you soak a cotton pad in it, place it against the skin and wait for a while. It turns the skin to slime and you scrape it off. It is vile, dusgusting and immensely satisfying in equal parts! Solves problems that my foot file can't.

VenusRising · 18/08/2013 00:30

My mum has one of these hard skin patches.

She'll be thrilled to hear she can turn her callus to slime!
What is in that stuff?
Sound like a weapon of mass destruction :)

valiumredhead · 18/08/2013 00:30

Ooooo sounds funGrin

ClartyCarol · 18/08/2013 00:35

Ooh yes, I read somewhere about some sock thingies you wear overnight which treat your hard skin so it turns to slime and can just be washed off in the morning. Must be the same witchcraft chemicals used.

yoyoyo · 18/08/2013 00:44

Foot peels are great fun. Soak your feet & then put them in the sock for 2 hours.
3 days - a week later skin begins to flake. It can get quite disgusting & takes around 2 weeks to completely shed 😨but it feels great after. You can get them on ebay for under £2

malteserzz · 18/08/2013 03:49

Be careful going down carpeted stairs too I've twice fallen on my bum when my heavily moisturised feet have slipped down the step!

BurningAsh · 18/08/2013 04:17

Can anybody recommend any specific foot peels please?

AntoinetteCosway · 18/08/2013 07:20

I think the one called Footner is meant to be good though I haven't tried it yet.

FloraFinching · 18/08/2013 07:23

i like the sound of the peels
i have recently done myself a mischief with a corn and callous knife thing, peel sounds more foolproof

Arcadia · 18/08/2013 08:15

Sail Hughes recommended those sock things in her recent article about anti-ageing products in the Guardian www.theguardian.com/fashion/2013/jul/20/anti-ageing-treatments-sali-hughes

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/08/2013 08:20

I can't wear socks in bed apart from in the depths of winter, makes me too hot, unfortunately summer is when most of the problems occur. I agree that a good rub with a towel after showering really helps. I'm going to look for the dissolving stuff as I have a few stubborn bits.

FriskyHenderson · 18/08/2013 08:21

India Knight was recommending the Footner exfoliating socks, but they are £25 on Amazon - can anyone link a cheaper equivalent?

FriskyHenderson · 18/08/2013 08:22

I usually use the razor blade with a handle thing that Boots sell but within a fortnight my feet are gross again. I rarely wear socks and am barefoot in the house and garden.

minibmw2010 · 18/08/2013 08:23

Footnor is £19.99inBoots and they're doing a buy one get one half price. I did it earlier in the week and have started peeling, it's amazing!

yoyoyo · 18/08/2013 08:29

I've used this make
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Exfoliating-Foot-Mask-Skin-Peeling-Dead-Skin-Prevents-Callus-Whitening-Spa-Sock-/350733302013
It does get icky with the skin flake make sure you do regular foot soaking after to speed up the flaking process

TheQuietCricket · 18/08/2013 08:30

Hard Hotfooting it down to Boots today. I sooooo need to try the Footner thingies.

ClartyCarol · 18/08/2013 09:01

Thank you Arcadia - that's where I read it.

nextphase · 18/08/2013 09:41

That e-bay one? The blurb says you need 3-5 pairs.
Anyone got the details of the skin to slime stuff?

yoyoyo · 18/08/2013 10:15

I've done 2 of the ebay ones over 3 months & my feet are loads better than when I was filing. I now put cream on them daily, there's a tiny bit of hard skin around the heel but that will go with the next one I do. The worst thing is the peeling it looks disgusting & to stop your feet shedding its worth keeping socks on in bed.

yoyoyo · 18/08/2013 10:20

Footnor & baby foot review

minibmw2010 · 21/08/2013 07:50

It's been about 1.5 weeks since I did my Footner and I have to say my feet do look good. They are very smooth though I do still have tough skin on the edges but the cracks are gone, the nasty white skin is gone. I did a foot soak and scrub last night to get rid of theist of the flaking skin and put on some cream and this morning they look great. So a bit of a faff to do in that you wait a while for the results but fully worth it I think Smile

Allthingspretty · 21/08/2013 08:43

It would be cheaper for me just to go to my chiropodist than buy all these.lotions and potions etc however great they all sound.
