black tie question

just looking for a bit of input on how you'd interpret 'black tie' for a 40th. I read something, goodness knows where, saying something about the more 'stuff' there is at the event, the longer your dress should be. So: dinner & drinks, shortish okay but factor in dancing and you should go longer.

There will be dancing Biscuit Hmm

However! it's not at some fancy schmancy venue but in a marquee in the garden. Which brings it down a notch maybe?

I have long, I have short - so it's no drama aither way. Just wondering which to opt for.

Thanks

Long is only required for white tie, a level of formality which rarely happens. The "amount" of "stuff" isn't a consideration, other than sit-down eating requires shoulders covered if even remotely traditional.

For black tie, any length is OK, but it needs to be very dressy. Depends on your legs really Grin
