Shellac or gel nails, but nude?

My eldest DD had her nails shellac-ed yesterday as a treat for her post AS results party - they look great and are a gorgeous glossy coral colour. She's wanted it doing for ages and they do look lovely.

The lady who did them said they should last up to 3 weeks, although she'll have to take it off earlier for school anyway. This got me thinking.

I'd really like glossy, well maintained nails for 3 weeks! I'm envious of them and fancy it myself. BUT I work in a very stuffy profession (in court) and can't really get away with bright colours. I pretty much keep my nails painted clear, pale pink or a pale nude colour.

I've not seen anyone with shellac this colour. Is that because they don't do it, because those colours don't look good as gel, or because if you're paying £30 a time you want the brightest colour possible to show what you've paid for?

Also, honestly, how bad is it for your nails? If I had a few tries and it wasn't working out, would I be left with a crumbly mess for nails?

Hi, I was thinking of having this done so I popped into the salon and had a chat to the receptionist. She showed me all the colours they had and there were some very light ones, can't remember if there was nude but definitely some very light shades.

I haven't had it done yet but my friend gave me some advice - don't pick at it yourself or you will damage your nails. Instead, get the salon to do it, they have a 'special' remover. You probably have to pay for them to do this but if you are having your nails re painted they'll remove the previous lot for free.

I'd pop into the nail place though and have a chat to them.

Shellac do lots of lovely nude and pale tone colours

If applied and removed correctly shellac will not damage you nails its also advised you apply sola oil daily to help the nails and nourish them.
Their is lots of bad press about shellac ruining your nails but if the real products are used (which not all techs do) then you'll get great results

CND are the makers of shellac if its not CND it fake you can check on this salon locator for trained techs using shellac
www.lovecnd.com/salon-finder/

If a tech isn't listed on locator but use shellac ask to see the bottle if its the real deal it'll say CND on it. That way you know you'll get nails that last and you won't get any damage to your natural nails Grin

I get shellac done and I work in court every day! I usually get a french polish or light pinks. Occasionally I get a brighter red which I think looks smart with the dark dresses/suits that I wear. If anything shellac is part of the 'uniform' for ladies in the courts I work in!

Gel is better and longer lasting than shellac

I get a French polish but without the white on top iyswim

I have shellac done every 3 weeks and they do have lovely pale colours. They last beautifully. I'm lucky in that I have someone who does it for £12 and that includes soaking off previous colour, an absolute bargain!

Oh that's good! I'm going to give it a try then! Thanks for the salon finder, I'll make sure I find a reputable one.

Longleggedlovely, I do agree red can almost pass as a neutral with dark suits, particularly in the winter months. It's funny you say that it's almost a uniform where you work. I so think it varies from circuit to circuit - where I started my career the ladies all had a certain uniform, a certain bag, even a certain hair cut! Where I am now is a bit more relaxed, but I do miss the polish of the old circuit!
