Best place to self-diagnose colours?

PomBearArmy · 16/08/2013 15:36

Locally I've discovered that my nearest CMB person doesn't do it anymore, and the nearest HoC person is too far away (and would charge £375 to come to my house. I don't need to know my colours quite that much!)

Which are the best books or sites for self-diagnosing?

I suspect I'm a soft autumn? I'm pale with warm undertones. I do tan, but slowly. My hair is golden brown with subtle red tones. My eyes are a murky blue grey with a golden ring round the pupil.

I look jaundiced in blue toned pink lipstick or lilac, I also look ill in colours that are too bronze or orange.

I looked on the Truth Is Beauty site, but I looked more like some of the Spring celebs!

You could well be a spring you know. How do you look in yellow?

PomBearArmy · 16/08/2013 17:32

I don't have any yellow clothes! Maybe that says something in itself! Though I can only get away with wearing khaki beige or green if I wear make-up and that's supposed to be a flattering colour for Autumns.

It's confusing to me!

Hmm, it's difficult isn't it. Bronze and oranges are typically Autumny so if you look shit in them you probably are more Springy.

You definitely sound warm so that narrows it down a bit anyway Grin

MadBusLady · 16/08/2013 17:48

I'd like to know this too. I keep meaning to buy some of the lipsticks she recommends in likely seasons, which seems like a relatively cheap way to do it. Has anyone done this and is it reliable?

PomBearArmy · 16/08/2013 18:38

I wonder if her list needs updating, wasn't Cherries In The Snow discontinued a few years ago?

I'm going by a MAC concession on Sunday so I'll note down the MAC lipsticks she mentions and give them all a swatch.

This is so confusing isn't it? You sound quite like me OP (without my freckles) but I'm afraid I can't shed any light - I spent all evening yesterday studying the following websites and I still can't work it out!

www.prettyyourworld.com/free-quiz.html
www.thechicfashionista.com/your-best-perfect-colors.html
www.truth-is-beauty.com

I narrowed it down to a cool winter on one and a summer something on the other. I can't even work out what my skin tone is and if gold or silver suit me best. I give up! Like you I don't have any yellow or orange clothes to even try and I think that says a lot. I was certainly drawn to the cool winter colours - they are much more representative of the colours already in my wardrobe e.g. bright red, bright purple (amythest?) and bright raspberry, and these are the colours that people have commented on suiting me when I wear them. Good luck in your quest - and if you do work it out, let me know!

flootshoot · 16/08/2013 20:22

Anyone fancy diagnosing me? I am skint and having my colours done is out of the question ATM.

I'm pale, burn easily but do tan eventually. I have pale freckles that blend in and are slightly more noticeable in summer. I'm told my skin has a pinkish hue rather than yellow. I have bluey grey eyes. I suit blue and the only time I've really noticed a colour really making a difference was when picking out fabrics for a bridesmaid dress; lilac made me look washed out but a light cornflower blue made my eyes really pop out!

Anyway, if any of you gurus fancy it, tell me what I am...

shoeprincess2 · 16/08/2013 20:34

Same as me flootshoot - I think you are a cool summer. Blue, charcoal and jade greens are my colours.

flootshoot · 16/08/2013 21:05

Ooh, ok. Will have a gander in the shops tomorrow and try looking at some of those.

PomBearArmy · 17/08/2013 10:20

I think Pinterest has diagnosed me.

"Soft Autumn: Hair, golden blonde to medium brown (mousey brown), possibly with red or golden highlights. Eyes, light brown, light hazel, green or blue with yellow or golden flecks. Skin, warm but muted, sometimes with some cool tones. The Best look for Soft Autumn is a muted, blended look. Avoid harsh lines, extremes of contrast, black, white and cool bright tones."

As an autumn you would suit orange and bronze tones.you sound more like warm spring to me

PomBearArmy · 17/08/2013 11:25

Argh, yes maybe! I might get brave enough to post a face pic later. As an autumn I would be soft autumn light and I think they are advised to stay at the soft light end of their colours, which would fit - but, actually warm spring might fit...

I've been trying to self diagnose my colours as well and am quite confused! Am skint and can't afford a proper HOC consultation at the moment - I tried some of the sites above and am thinking autumn of some sort. I have mousey brown hair, with blonde highlights, skin that tans really easily with yellow undertones, bright green/blue eyes (doctor yesterday told me they 'pop'!) and I generally look better in jewel type colours, I think....

snowlie · 28/09/2013 19:03

I just got myself done last week, consultant came to me house for £99 and we live near London! I would never have diagnosed myself as Autumn, but yet that is what I am. Mustards, creams and beige look hideous on me, really hideous. I thought I suited white and black, royal blue, green and some greys. I have v pale skin, dark hair and dark eyes, I am a vibrant autumn with a dramatic style - the rich deep bright colours suit me but I always need sharp tailoring and contrasts around my face - I knew this already. Still struggling with the Autumn shades, they are my idea of hell colours. Even my mum was really surprised that I was told black did not suit me, she loves black on me, so I am still struggling to believe that one can only wear colours from one season.

TheArticFunky · 28/09/2013 19:25

You have identical colouring to me and I have self diagnosed myself as Autumn. I can't wear summer colours at all, I can get away with spring and autumn but they are not my best. I'm drawn to Autumn and feel most confident wearing colours from that palette.

practicality · 28/09/2013 22:13

What season suits absolutely no shade of grey or beige what so ever?

JustLikeHeaven · 28/09/2013 23:30

oh can I jump in too please. Am I right about my season. I think I am a Warm Spring. . that's all I can figure out. I have naturally red hair, blue eyes, pale skin, never tan, freckles and I always burn. have both yellow and pink undertones . . so I have been told.

anyone else the same as me ?

Joycey29 · 29/09/2013 10:00

I m a light, clear and warm with CMB which roughly translates to a a spring. I have blonde hair, pale blue eyes and skin that is a warm tone.
I wear teals, French navy, pewter, corals and Kelly green. The colours were not all in my wardrobe before but have streamlined and never had so many comments.
Also saved money by not spending on things that are wrong.
It does really help with my shopping. Grin
