Suggestions for weekend 'outdoor' shoes that won't break the bank?

I could really do with some casual trainer/shoe type outdoor shoes for trips to muddy parks etc with DS - any suggestions for any that are practical without being ridiculously ugly for under £100?

I need something like this too but they're all so clumpy and ugly!

DTisMYdoctor · 16/08/2013 19:02

Hopefully someone will come along with some helpful suggestions!!!

I bought some from Clarks on the spur of the moment yes, but they are truly ugly. I saw some I didn't mind at ecco but in excess of £100 - a bit much for what I need them for!!!

Do you have a sports direct near you? We all have "sensible shoes" for rugby training/snow and ice/country walks from there. They were £25-30 per pair.

VivaLeBeaver · 16/08/2013 19:05

Sports direct have some nice waterproof kerrimor ones on offer for £26

VivaLeBeaver · 16/08/2013 19:10

lots here

Summer sales are on. Bargains to be had. Do you have a big outdoor retailer near you? Cotswold, Brigham's, Tiso etc? There are lots of major brand shoes, e.g. merrell, salomon, north face, for £40-70 that would be £70-110 full price. I have several pairs of merrells and salomons of varying degrees of stoutness and non-ugliness.

DTisMYdoctor · 17/08/2013 07:57

Not sure if there's a sports direct anywhere, but I am going near a big tiso today so will check in there.

Found these in Cotswald today (though I see they're £10 cheaper online Hmm). Not too bulky, and although I'm not overly fussed on the colour they'll do the trick and I didn't have a lot of time to go traipsing about. Thank you for recommendation to try the outdoor shops while the sales are on!

I would recommend Merrells - I bought a pair for £65 about 6 years ago, which I thought was a lot then, but they have been absolutely brilliant - sooo comfortable and haven't worn at all as far as I can tell! They're a bit like a cross between trainers and hiking boots - ankle length, with those elastic things rather than normal laces.

DTisMYdoctor · 17/08/2013 11:51

I quite liked the look of some merrells but none of the sale ones in the shop I was in had them on sale unfortunately.

Do they particularly have to be on sale? Amazon have them well within your budget here

DTisMYdoctor · 17/08/2013 12:07

No, but I needed waterproof ones and I needed them today so I have bought the north face ones.

Sorry, my earlier post should have said none of the sale ones were waterproof!

I bought a pair of yard boots for this purpose. As waterproof as wellies, comfy as trainers and look ok with jeans /dresses/leggings.

Aquelven · 17/08/2013 16:00

Sports a direct sell Skechers which are lightweight & comfy, around £35.

Belindaearl2 · 17/08/2013 19:55

I've had Merrell for 3ish yrs & they're in good nick. Knowing they're indestructible I should have bought goretex version (non was slightly cheaper).

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged

these sound good for dog walking! any recommendations/ links please?
thank you

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 17/08/2013 23:11

I've just checked and mine are Dublin Pinnacle boots. Sorry, can't link from phone. If I was buying another pair I'd look for better grips than these have but otherwise I LOVE them.

cheers
