Which brands do you wait on discounting every year before buying?

I noticed quite a few companies gave very generous discount codes last year and I happily took advantage of quite a few. I know Boden is almost permanently discounted but what about the others.

What brands to hold out for that discount code before buying?

Whistles
Gap
H&M
Toast
Clarks
J Crew

Any others do an annual discount code?

Always wait...

The White Company
White Stuff
Boden
Clarks

I can't remember the last time I paid full price for anything in Gap!

RubyLovesShopping · 15/08/2013 08:52

All of those listed above apart from white stuff which I really dislike.

suntodayplease · 15/08/2013 09:04

I'm a big fan of the JL price match days

TheCraicDealer · 15/08/2013 09:11

I buy probably 80% of my clothes at a discounted price- the rest would be suits and dresses for work from Next or Marksies, which are fairly priced anyway imho. Always wait to buy from:

Reiss
Ted Baker
Jack Wills
Clarks
All Saints
Office
Anything that has a concession in House Of Fraser.

When I find a new label I like I sign up to the mailing list- get shed loads of junk mail now, but have saved a few quid Grin

Always wait for the Whistles Grazia discount which seems to come round about four times a year now and resent ever buying anything from Gap without less than a 30% discount!

J Crew seems to be like Boden in that there is always a discount code available somewhere, I wonder if it will be the same once the stores open in the UK?

Also wait for discount codes for Kurt Geiger, House of Fraser discount days for Reiss who seem to rarely do any discounts on their own.

Slightly different but now only ever buy posh beauty products on duty free to get my 20% off. I'd rather make a scraping of moisturiser last a week to get me to my next airport visit than go and buy at full price.

The discount culture means that I just think that places like Whistles, J Crew, Boden and Gap are really overpriced and the discounts just bring the cost down to an acceptable price rather than a bargain iyswim. It would be interesting to know if these brands find that the cycle of discounts actually boosts their profits now or if the early days of everyone rushing to spend with a discount voucher have been offset by the fact that sales are lower in between discount periods.

missbopeep · 15/08/2013 10:17

Bit off topic but if J Crew is US based how does postage work- or do they distribute from UK warehouses?

Bellebelle · 15/08/2013 10:22

missbopeep they currently offer free P&P and returns for UK customers and use something called Bordersfree to send everything to the UK. I don't know exactly how it works but I assume they are a third party company they export everything from the US through. DHL have delivered all of my packages so far. They have a 60 day returns policy although I'm actually still to work out how I return anything as they seem to have included the US instructions which wouldn't work from here.

Elsiequadrille · 15/08/2013 10:41

Brora. I may buy something from the children's section before, but otherwise I wait for the sales for myself.

foxysocks · 15/08/2013 12:49

i would usually agree with whistles but have just waited and waited for a code and now the dress i wanted is sold out everywhere in my size. AND it's still full price. v annoying.

I never order from j crew or boden without a code.

santamarianovella · 15/08/2013 13:03

premium denim brands like ;j brand or james jeans. never pay full price for denim,
only pay full price for items that i know will sell fast, the rest, wait for codes or sales.

InMyShreddies · 15/08/2013 13:18

Most of the above, and also Hush. I love their jammies and loungewear, but only buy in their bi-annual sales. When I spend the same amount but get twice as much stuff Smile

And French Connection, because I think it's really overpriced but becomes good value at sale prices.

MarshaBrady · 15/08/2013 13:22

Hush pjs
Expensive skinnies
Tshirts that were £70+ need to be half price or less

And if I do a White Co order for bed linen / towels

DesperateHousewife21 · 15/08/2013 14:00

How does one find out about these sales/ discounts? Do you need to sign up to emails or something?

I love so many brands which I can only really afford on ebay so would love to buy new in the sales or with discount codes.

Oh the trouble with expensive taste! Grin

HappyAsEyeAm · 15/08/2013 15:49

Fruigi. I love their baby and boys clothes, but they are so pricey. I always wait for at least 15% off.

snowlie · 15/08/2013 15:56

Get the codes by signing up to the mailing lists and keeping an eye out on S&B for the magazine offers.
