Which boots for chunky calves - knee high or mid calf? Or neither?

Having a crisis of confidence!

Am 22 weeks of with DC2 and will be spending most of the next few moths in knee length a-line skirts & dresses and opaque tights. (Maternity trousers drive me mad as they fall down)

But what to wear on feet?
I will do ballet shoes and loafers, but also want a pair of boots too.
But being chunky of calf and knee, should I be going for a knee length pair
these £££ ones
Or a mid calf pair like these

I can't tell myself - need MN guidance

I'd definitely go for knee length, I think mid calf boots are hard to wear even for people with stick legs. Knee boots look much better with skirts/dresses imo.

You could go for stretchy boots so they can accommodate your change in shape... Peter Kaiser do them for a similar price to the Duo pair, Boden usually have some & Rapisardi do them on Zalando...

Congrats on your pregnancy. x

Try duo, they do a range of calf fittings. The Helvin at the top of the page (if I've done the link right) would be flattering as it's cut on a slant.

Never mid-calf - cuts the leg off at it's widest point.

saw some stretchy boots in m&s the other day - they looked quite nice. unfortunately I was shopping with ds2 and 3 for school uniform and they don't have the patience to watch me try on shoes, so no idea if they are comfy!

Knee high from duo.
Not worth faffing around with any other brand. Duo will fit like a glove and last for years - worth every penny.

Yonihadtoask · 15/08/2013 08:15

Knee high I say.

I have sturdy calves -and think that the knee high boots look good.

The last pair I bought was actuallly from Sainsburys - only £50 or so - they are just the right width.

The top of the boot shouldn't fall across the widest part of the calf. You really need to try pairs on to get an idea. Maybe take a friend along to help you get them on and off Grin. I would look at some of the companies selling wider fitting boots too. You can find them online and I think Clarks may do them too.

Just thought I'd add my two'pennith for what it's worth!

As someone who was heavily pregnant during deepest winter, I would suggest thinking about ease of access to any boots.
Anything which is tight round your ankle or needs to be pulled up might not be suitable if your ankles swell badly or as growing bump makes access to your feet more difficult.
I ended up wearing slouchy boots or my ballet pumps (yes even in the freezing cold) as I couldn't get much else on my feet.
Obviously you might be totally different to me, but just worth considering when you are trying boots on.

Knee high. Full stop.

As a calf chunky person who has been heavily pregnant during boot season, I would totally recommend duo. Not cheap (keep an eye out for the sales) but they do last. I've got the same pair in different colours (& I never do that!).

Eliza22 · 15/08/2013 13:43

Me too! Same pair.... Two colours and always receive compliments on them!

Eliza22 · 15/08/2013 13:44

Should mention.... Bought them on sale. Still £££, for me!

Silverstar2 · 15/08/2013 16:58

Yep another vote for Duo - I have - ahem - chunky calves, and they are the only boot that will fit. Their CS is fab, boots great quality and if you can get some in the sale or on-line in the outlet shop, even better.

I have (quite) a few pairs and cannot wait to wear them again!

Chocolateteabag · 16/08/2013 05:50

Thanks everyone! 100% knee high has me told!

I have looked at duo before, think I will take a harder look

glitter - good point re getting boots on, I do have some Dubarry knock offs which I can step into if all else fails (or DH wil just have to step into valet role!)
