How often do you get your hair blow-dried?

I have long hair with a natural wave to it. I'm rubbish at blow drying but I do have some GHDs which I use when I can be bothered/have time. But most of the time it's not blow dried/straightened and although dh says it looks nice, I feel a bit scruffy.

Some of salons near me do a cheap-ish blow dry mid week with a junior. But I would feel a bit guilty doing this regularly. But my mum's generation wouldn't think twice about a weekly trip to the hairdresser.

Never. I have longish hair and it cut 6 weeks or so. I save £10 a time by not having it blow dried.

Ooops, meant to say "and I have it cut once every six weeks or so." I wash my hair every morning without fail and after it's dried naturally for an hour or so give it a quick blast with the hairdryer.

Jubelteen - that is so much money! Excuse me for saying so, but I've always wondered how on earth 'normal' people ie not celebrities or millionaires, justify spending £££ every month on their hair?! And I'm really, really vain and still I struggle to go every 3 months.

Jubelteen · 16/08/2013 13:19

InMySheddies I don't go to a posh salon like Toni and Guy, just a local one, and get an all-over colour, not fancy mesh etc, so it really isn't extortionate. Have tried doing it at home but it gets really patchy over time, plus it ends up splattered all over the bathroom. My grey would be too noticeable if I left it longer and I have fairly short hair, so it starts to look grown out after about 4 weeks.

I go every Friday, hair done for the weekend. Costs me £12 each time. My hair is a nightmare to style myself so this makes life so much easier for me.

I would LOVE to get my hair blow dried weekly, but it is too expensive. One of my best friends is a hairdresser and when she was training she used to Blowdry mine every Friday in the salon.

My mum still gets hers done weekly as she always has since I can remember but pays about £12. Where I live it costs about £30-40 and the cheaper salons do a rubbish job.

Never unless I'm having my hair cut which is about once every four months. Surely this was only back in the days when people didn't have hairdryers at home?

Be careful with Brazilian blow dry/blow out. It isn't a blow dry at all, its a chemical straightener. I've had it twice. First time was quite good, made my hair feel nice and look silkier for a couple of months with less effort than before (but you still need to blow dry it to get the best effect). Second time was a different product which clearly had lots of formaldehyde in it you could smell it and it stung my eyes. They were streaming. Didn't damage my hair but neither did it do anything good to it.

I blow dry my own hair everyday. It is only blow dried by the hairdresser when I have it cut.

I had a brazillian blow dry - it lasted maybe a week max - £100 for a week, it was rubbish in my opinion.

Thumbwitch · 16/08/2013 15:17

Never. Never use a hairdryer on it at home either. It's long, fine, natural wave/curl and goes ballistic if I blowdry it - I cba to use heaps of products to stop it going ballistic, it's much easier just to let it dry by itself. :)

Although the question was how often d you get your hair blow dried really the point is about making your hair look better without lots of effort. Have you tried bendy rollers? Those 1980s bit of foam with wire through the middle? I've recently had an ombré effect out in my long hair and it looks much better with a soft curl. I'm rubbish at making a curl with the GHDs and also reluctant to fry my hair every day using them and so I've been putting the bendy rollers in the ends at night and sleeping in them. When I get up I have lovely soft curls. I think the box was about £3.99 for 15 so rather cheaper and less time consuming than a twice weekly blow dry
