Clarins 3 dot liner - any good?

Has anyone used this eyeliner and is it any good? I've just discovered it tonight and looks like it gives the exact effect I've been looking for for ages. Just goes between the lashes and makes the base of them look thicker.
Just wondering how easy it is to use and how effective it is?

I think they're a cheaper version of this available that has got some good reviews. Whichever you choose it seems like a clever idea and I totally know the look you want to achieve. I often line my top waterline to thicken my top lashes without obvious eyeliner.

If you try it please report back

Bourjois (sp?!) do one Smile

Neena28 · 12/08/2013 21:52

It's this one I'm thinking of bourjois

Neena28 · 12/08/2013 21:53

Too slow linking as always!!!

Jemster · 12/08/2013 21:55

Neena what liner do you currently use to line the top waterline?

I just use an angled eyeliner brush and dark brown or navy eyeshadow, which I dampen by wetting the brush head before pushing the shadow into it. Then just press the brush along your top lash line, all along. Don't drag it like with normal eyeliner. You press it right in to the base of the lashes and it just makes you look like you have really lush lashes, not an obvious " eyeliner" look. I love it. No need for any particular type of special eyeliner. I've used Bobbi Brown longwear gel eyeliner and honestly it works no better than this method (which I learnt from a BB make up artist 17 years ago!). I think the Clarins product achieves the same sort of look.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2013 22:17

I've tried the Bourjois one and didn't like it, just looked like black dots. It might be ok as an extra filler with black eyeliner but not on its own. I only use black eyeliner for occasional nights out, do the same as Mendi for every day, sometimes with a bit of pencil on the outer rim of the waterline too, gives a nice natural result.

CuttedUpPear · 12/08/2013 22:32

I've got one. It took me ages to realise that you don't use it from the top like an ordinary liner, but you draw the three prongs up through your lashes starting on the waterline on your top lid below your upper lashes.

It's brilliant and has stopped me 'printing' eyeliner onto my browbone.

Whoknows if you're applying from above that might be why you're getting the black dot effect.

video shows how to achieve the effect with eyeshadow (if you have the skill and patience).
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 12/08/2013 22:52

Thanks Cutted - I might give it another go (if I didn't chuck it out), it was a few months ago and I can't remember exactly how I used it.

SundaySimmons · 13/08/2013 08:41

I agree with Mendi, it is the application that is important. I use an angled eyebrow brush that I apply dark powder to the roots of my eyelashes.

Neena28 · 13/08/2013 08:55

If you can get a small flat topped brush that will help immensely. A stiffish brush.

I use either urban decay either in black or a deep purple (have green eyes so it brings the colour out more). As I wear contact lenses I've found some eyeliners seem to smudge onto my lenses. The urban decay doesn't.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2013 08:58

OK, I had another go with the Bourjois one, pushing it into the roots of the lashes from underneath. The effect was so subtle it didn't really make a difference so I used it to draw a fine line along the top as well, which helped. Black is too harsh for daytime for me though, and it took ages so I will stick to brown powder for everyday and save the pen for evenings.

CuttedUpPear · 13/08/2013 19:52

It is a subtle effect but I weighed it up against the old-lady eyelid printing I always get these days and have decided to go for trying to build up a dark line on my root line over a few applications. The line I was drawing with liner was too harsh for my (47 yo) face.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 13/08/2013 22:35

I think age (plus pale skin) is the problem with black for me (46) - the lids are slightly crepey now which makes liquid impossible. I can still do a dramatic line with black for evening, but matt, brown and smudgier definitely the way to go for daytime. Will persist with the 3 dot pen though. I'm just wondering how hard it will be to get it off.

CuttedUpPear · 14/08/2013 00:57

Whoknows I'm not aiming to get it off really. If it stays in my lashline I'd be happy - it's not going to smudge once it's in there (and I'm an inveterate make up remover person).

Jemster · 15/08/2013 13:07

Thanks for all the replies. I just tried this out in the shop. The lady applied it above the lashline on my lid and you could see a gap between the line and base of lashes, not a good look. Also it felt really sticky and then proceeded to smudge and ended up with a line at top of eyesocket!

I really wanted this to work. Was she applying it wrong?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/08/2013 20:32

Sounds like it, yes. I have been playing with the Bourjois one over the last few days and pushing it in between from underneath the lashes first, then filling in from above is the way to go.

Cutted - I couldn't get it all off. Never mind.

MrsRogerSterling · 15/08/2013 21:40

I love my Bourjois one. I apply it after mascara (prob wrong way but works best for me), upwards from under the lashes. It fills in the little gap between the lashes and makes them seem much more defined and fuller. I love it! Definitly sounds as though the assistant did not know what she was doing.

Jemster · 15/08/2013 23:05

The assistant did not work for Clarins, she was just covering while Clarins lady at lunch, so I don't think she knew how it should be applied. Bit worried about the sticky feeling after she applied, like it was sticking my eyelids together!
