Please can you tell us a bit more about your hair?

Is it long/short, curly/straight, dry and frizzy/ lank and greasy? What colour is is and is that natural or dyed/highlighted?

What hair products are you using currently?

It's a bit hard to suggest why your hair might look dull and what could fix it without knowing more about it.

thoughtsbecomethings · 12/08/2013 17:50

My hair is shoulder length not dyed light/ mid brown. Don't use any products and leaved to dry naturally

I think blowdrying your hair will improve its shine (use a heat defence spray before drying) & you can purchase products which purport to add shine. I'm currently using a V05 gloss spray (will doublecheck the exact name) but so far I'm impressed with the effect it has. :)

Make sure the water when you wash your hair isn't too hot, and when you do your final rinse using cooler water helps to make hair shinier. Also the longer you leave conditioner in your hair the more moisturised and smoother/shinier it will be (although don't condition near roots if you have greasy hair).

ruby is correct that blowdrying improves shine.

Loreal extraordinary oil and some glossy conditioner.

NishiNoUsagi · 12/08/2013 23:38

I have long, highlighted naturally curly but always straightened hair. Ran out of my usual grown up colour shampoo, nicked the kids shampoo (simple moisturising shampoo I think?), used that with Aussie 3 minute miracle Shine conditioner and my hair has looked amazing Shock Really shiny and well behaved.

I was using Aussie colour shampoo and shine conditioner before and it was still a bit frizzy and crazy, so I can only assume that baby shampoo has secret magic powers Grin Maybe worth a try?

And yy to final rinse with cool water, and maybe a tiny bit of serum after it's dried might also help.

Dye it a nice chocolate brown. Lots of shine!

DameDoom · 13/08/2013 00:24

If you don't dye your hair and let it dry naturally it is probably in excellent condition. Make sure you get it trimmed regularly, use a clarifying shampoo once a week, especially if you are in a hard water area . I second the blow drying - wait until it is 80% dry naturally, use a tiny bit of serum and point the nozzle of your hair dryer downwards to smooth the cuticle - you will get a mirror like shine.

Thank you looks like I will get the hair dryer out again!

Rinse with apple cider vinegar mixed with water. Super shine :)

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 20/08/2013 10:28

try once a week clarifying shampoo to get rid of any product build up, change products every few months and look at argan oil.

FunInTheSunD · 20/08/2013 10:42

I find that some shampoos really make my hair dull, my friend for instance loves pantene but I think its dreadful stuff so do chop snd change till you find one that suits. the shampoos and conditioners marketed for brunette hair are fab and give a lovely shine.
I also agree with waiting till your hair s 80% dry before drying, but dont over dry it...

FunInTheSunD · 20/08/2013 10:48

I forgot to add that super drug go a shampoo in colour that only lasts a few shampoos, which leaves hair really glossy. I always get loads of compliments when I use these, I then lie and say its naturalBlush Blush Smile
its called colour effects in a small grey bottle, but don't go darker than your natural colour

OP said her hair was light/mid brown...

DameDoom · 20/08/2013 11:04

Awful you can achieve a super shine on fair hair - mine is a blonde/white... white being the old and blonde being the highlights mind,
Wink and it gleams in all its two-toned glory.Tis a ball-ache though and I won't deny it costs a flamin' fortune to maintain.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 20/08/2013 16:20

nutrogena do a good one Num

NumTumDeDum · 20/08/2013 17:35

Thanks StepAway!

DameDoom · 20/08/2013 18:27

Hairfix - you can get it online or on QVC. It's s proper 3 step clarifier - the clarifier doesn't foam so it is quite strange.IMHO no clarifying shampoo will work like this. Only use it once a week because you can't style your hair properly afterwards as it is too soft.
