So I've been running and doing yoga for past 5 months and finally lost my baby weight, (1 and 3/4 stone) feels amazing! So my treat to self is to buy a really good pair of jeans as my reward......
When I last bought good jeans, I had citizens
of humanity, seven didn't suit my shape at the time. However this was several years ago so I feel very out of touch as I'm sure there's more up to date styles/brands available now, so any advice would be much appreciated. I'm looking for skinny/straight leg and am size 8/10
Thank you!

hello! where are you based? jeans are such a personal decision, you might find it worth your while to go to a specialist jeans boutique and try on LOADS to find your favourite. donna ida are totes fab, if you can get to london?

my favourite are goldsign high rise virtuals (have two pairs) and j brand 811.

AmberNectarine · 11/08/2013 19:14

Well, this is my area of expertise! My very favourite style is the Goldsign Virtual, which is a high-rise slightly cropped super-skinny. If you are tall, the Goldsign Lure is a good alternative. The J Brand 620 is also a great higher rise style. The Paige verdugo skinny is good if you prefer a lower rise, ditto the Hudson Nico. The J Brand 811 is a slightly straighter leg style, as is the 912. I don't really get on with Current Elliott as I find them very low rise. Frame are the new kid on the block, and while I haven't tried them myself, apparently they are fantastic.

Sleepwhenidie · 11/08/2013 19:15

Get yourself to somewhere like Selfridges and try on lots to find what you like. Or order lots from a website such as DonnaIda. Try Goldsign skinny high rise and JBrands as a starting point but don't restrict yourself. Do not buy them... but establish what pair and what size you want. Then get on shopbop.con where you will almost definitely get them much cheaper (US site so returns are an expensive PITA which is why you really should know you will keep what you order).

AmberNectarine · 11/08/2013 19:15

foxy your faves are the same as mine, I have 3 pairs of each!

AmberNectarine · 11/08/2013 19:17

Oh yeah, sleep is spot on with the Shopbop advice. Or wait for the sales - denim is massively reduced in the Selfridges sale - I'm talking £30-£75 per pair.

Sleepwhenidie · 11/08/2013 19:17

X posts with foxy and Amber..we clearly spend too much time chatting about jeans Grin

foxysocks · 11/08/2013 19:46

waaahaa look at the MNV contigent with the identical advice Grin

yes def do the shopbop thing - that's what I did, saved about £100 per pair. and then like amber says you can be ready to pounce once the sales start

the outnet is great - my grey goldsigns were £90 down from £270.

gd1976 · 11/08/2013 22:39

Great thanks so much everyone- and for all the detail. J brand sounds like trying a few different styles, I reckon selfridges is good advice and can try in lots. Even though I've lost weight I don't seem to have lost the love handles so I think a higher rise jean is going to be better for me- excited!! Smile

I love J Brand I just got a pair of chinos for less than $70 in the Shop Bop sale even at full price they are cheaper. Might be worth trying styles on and then if you like them order from the US .

mysteryfairy · 12/08/2013 11:59

Can't argue with the advice re trying and buying on sale.

I like higher waisted jeans and a couple of other brands I'd suggest trying are
Nudie High Kai (these are relatively cheap so a good option if you can't wait to get some on sale)
Nobody Cult Skinny

shoeprincess2 · 12/08/2013 12:13

I've just been putting some of my older jeans to one side for the next charity bag- after 2 children, I can't wear anything low rise. Despite being slim, they still give me a ridiculous muffin top. So, I'm in the market for one, all purpose, pair of jeans. I am 5ft 9.5ins, size 8-10 and my legs are pretty muscular (i.e. quite substantial of thigh and calf, as opposed to thin). So, what do you experts suggest? They need to be comfortable enough to sit in all day, but dressy enough to go out for lunches and after work drinks.

Moon on a stick much? Smile

Sleepwhenidie · 16/08/2013 09:46

Princess definitely try the Goldsigns mentioned above, the denim is incredibly soft and stretchy, I don't own a pair but have tried on (and earmarked for future purchase). They are as comfy as leggings but unlike cheaper denim, reportedly hold their shape so should stay looking smart enough to wear out for drinks - toddler grubby mitt marks not withstanding Grin.

dexter73 · 16/08/2013 09:49

I have a pair of Goldsigns but found they went baggy quickly, probably due to the fabric being soft and stretchy. I love Levis - they don't bag and come in a wide range of styles and colours.

MrsCampbellBlack · 16/08/2013 10:02

I don't get on with Goldsigns - I need a bit more thigh streamlining than they offer.

But I do rate J Brand and some MiH - again depends on style and rinse though.

CofH avedon also nice.

But agree you just need to try stacks on really. And for cheaper jeans, I'm loving Zara at the moment.

libertychick · 16/08/2013 11:07

Another vote here for Levi's - l have found Levi shop staff v v helpful. And once you know what style suits you TKMaxx regularly have them - I got mine for £30.

TKMaxx also regularly have Hudson, Not your daughters, 7FAM and occasionally MIH so worth popping in regularly if you live near one.

AmberNectarine · 16/08/2013 11:14

Agree re Nudie High Kais - they are probably my most flattering pair.

suntodayplease · 16/08/2013 13:06

Nobody cult jeans are great, like a better version of Topshop Jamie's, which are a great fit except the belt loops break easily which really annoyed me. Higher waist is most certainly a good option when you're running around after young DC.

snowlie · 16/08/2013 14:33

I tried on lots of premium denim last year but never found the right pair, then spotted a pair in Jigsaw - Richmond skinny - flattering on the thigh and butt and pretty good for curvy types, they hold their shape too.
