Oh My Eyes!

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 10/08/2013 21:00

I have heavy, tired, sore eyes. They look bruised, are puffy and there are slight lines forming underneath, where they are slightly swollen. The lids are even red these days. I have an almost permanent eye headache.

I would like some tips on getting rid. And also, some tips on make-up/concealers/coversticks/whatever to use.

I am attempting to increase my water intake. I am horrendously shite at this, but I know it needs doing so I am trying. Funnily, immediately after some surgery recently, I was on a drip for a couple of days, followed by an increased thirst so I drank tons and tons and tons of water for a week. My skin was marvelous for a few days and I actually looked really well despite having a traumatic procedure (ok, it wasn't so traumatic, I was asleep!). I am nowhere near the recommended 8 glasses a day. If I drink that much I will be in the loo all day.

Sleep. Yeah right! I have broken shitty sleep most of the time. Partly child related, partly pain related, partly habit/longevity of shit sleep pattern. Again straight after surgery I slept lots, for several days and I guess I caught up a bit, along with water intake, that helped my skin tone etc.

I eat pretty healthily. Although no longer a vegetarian, I don't eat red meat, and eat chicken occasionally, fish occasionally. Eat plenty of vegetables and a reasonable amount of fruit. I probably eat too much bread and pasta and wondered if this made it all worse.

I have tried eye illuminating pen by no.7 but it's too pale/yellow and gives me a reverse panda look. I use the II colour, but the lighter/redder one looks like someone has assaulted me. I have tried clinique, didn't really do much and didn't last very long. I have tried some putty from Benefit (can't remember the name) which was nice, but a bit too dark/heavy, although probably the best one I have used. I have tried some others, garnier etc, just all a bit rubbish. I haven't been brave enough to try more expensive ones as I am too nervous to spend the money and it not work.

I would like to not feel so old, haggard and puffed up.

Help! Give me some miracle advice that I am missing, please!

You need to drink and go to loo. Is there a reason like ur job that u can't go? Urine should be pale straw colour no darker. Weak tea, diluted fruit juice etc is all valid doesnt have to be pure water. My DH has terrible bags/shadows this from IMHO too much caffeine and screen work. Had ur eyes checked recently? Hope u get it sorted and get more sleep too. Tried camomile tea?? Good luck

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 07:07

proper I go to the loo fine! I am saying that if I drink 8 glasses a day I will be in the loo all day! I probably drink too much coffee...

And I suspect that my lack of sleep isn't going to change any time soon. The odds are against me.

Won't your bladder get used to the increased intake?

I find that sugar makes me look tired and puffy. Water is the best rejuvenator. Peeing is a small price to pay !

YoniMontana · 11/08/2013 07:12

My eyes were permanently bloodshot and itchy and it turned out I had rosacea in my eyelids! I got antibiotics and its much better. It could also be dry eye syndrome. I would go to your optician if your eyes are actually sore.

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 07:17

you been to opticians recently, for contact lens check. I don't wear them very often (daily disposables) and proper appt last year. My eyes are healthy, do have some dry spots but she didn't seem particularly bothered even though I mentioned it to her. She said it could be a reaction to medication I have been on, but not been on that for a while now and I have always had some dry patches on the whites of the eyes. They don't seem perfectly white. I have some bloodshot patches from time to time, but nothing significant.

Honestly, the going to the loo is not a big deal, why is that an issue?! it was a flippant comment about how much water 8 glasses is and how difficult I find it to drink that much in a day. Honestly, my water works are not a problem.

I suspect it's largely lack of sleep, but I can't change that any time soon.

corrie I don't have too much sugar, and try to eat unrefined food where i can, but, I guess it can be hidden?

Flibbedyjibbet · 11/08/2013 07:17

Think Proper is asking if you're job has "comfort break" restrictions eg a production line with a 20 min break every 4 hours rather than about your ability to actually pee.

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 07:18

So, is drinking gallons of water really the only solution? I don't even like the stuff. Unless it is combined with grapes.

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 07:19

fibb oh, ok, no, I am currently at home recovering from surgery, so free to go when I like! And I work in a place where I go whenever I like, and am very close to the loos (too close as it means people walk past me all the time and chat, but hey ho!)

An eyegel with witch hazel or cucumbers I help. I use Olay.
Estée Lauder double wear concealer is supposed to be good, also YSL Touch Éclat.

Dilidali · 11/08/2013 07:29

I use clinique all about eyes and YSL touche eclat. They last me about 6 months, when that has finished, I throw away my mascara and eyeliner as well and buy new ones.
Every so often I put a mask on and I either use cucumber slices for the eyes or 'tea' bags ( I can't remember what's in them, they are for eyes).
Wednesdays evenings I go to bed one hour early.
I have a water bottle and when I get to work it gets filled, I must drink it all (750 ml) by lunchtime, I refill and the second bottle must be drunk by the time I finish.

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 07:40

dili and do you have lovely eyes? Grin

i have been told about the touch eclait. I rarely wear make up any more because it just looks so terrible over my horrid puffed up eyes, it doesn't make me feel lovely, just like I am trying to hide, badly!

OP posts:
TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 07:41

i shall get an eye gel too. i'm going shopping today! i tried cold compress last night in bed, with lights off. felt lovely, but another shite night's sleep ant any benefits are now wasted.

I've definitely noticed that my skin looks much better when I drink enough water and get enough sleep.

You mentioned that you "drink too much coffee". That is probably affecting your sleep! I would try to cut down and eventually cut out the coffee (or at least switch to decaf) and see if you notice a difference.

Also, alcohol will have a negative affect on both your skin (it dehydrates you, so you'll need to drink even more water than the regular 8 glasses, on days where you have alcohol!) and on your sleep (count roughly one hour's sleep to metabolise each unit of alcohol, which counts against the 8 hours your body needs).

In fact, alcohol is metabolised in an almost identical way to sugar/fructose, so it has a similar effect on your skin, in addition to the other effects I mentioned above. Try to limit yourself to a couple of glasses, a couple of times a week and see if you notice a difference.

Dilidali · 11/08/2013 08:57

sun, of course I have lovely eyes :)

MovingGal · 11/08/2013 09:23

My eyelids were quite pink and I thought nothing of it since I am quite fair & put it down to hot weather but the optician said my eyelashes were infected. There is a proper name for it but it escapes me atm. Anyway the advice was to wash my eyelashes with dilute baby shampoo and a face cloth in the shower, stroking from inner corner outwards, with warm water.
I no longer worry about the shampoo but still pay special attention to this area and find the pinkness is much improved.
The bruising and lines and puffiness underneath may be due to allergies? I suggest you google for this- recently I was looking up info for my son and came across images of eyes in allergic people (again the name escapes me, I am on a roll!)

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 10:42

dili I shall follow your regime then Grin

vit I try to drink coffee in the mornings only, but have not been at work so it's easy to just keep making them! I rarely drink alcohol really. I have been on powerful painkillers for quite a while which mean alcohol can't be drunk with them. I am no longer on those meds, but the desire for alcohol has disappeared. I have a glass or two a week max. Good to know that I need more water on those days though. And more sleep!

My main problem with sleeping is largely to do with a child who wakes in the night and a DH who comes to bed late/early hours of the morning. Some of it is pain related but think that if I were sleeping better I wouldn't be awake to feel the pain in the first place. It's a sort of viscious circle now, so when I get a night's sleep that isn't disturbed, I wake anyway.

I will try to cut down my coffee. Increase my water. use some eye gel. get a lovely touche eclait concealer in the meantime.

moving Interesting about allergies. I do suffer from stuffy sinuses from time to time and have narrow nasal passages (broken nose a few times in my lifetime). I used to get horrendous sinus infections, had one this year, just before surgery, but nothing too regular any more.

If you are in discomfort, I'd check out any possible causes with the GP and the optometrist first.

Subject to the optometrists views I like a spray you can get over the country called Actimist for dry eyes caused by staring at my computer.

If it turns out 'only' to be a cosmetic problem then yes get a good eye gel and keep it in fridge. And I thin the By Terry concealer from Space NK is miles better than Touch Éclat.
Also think loads of water to drink is always a good thing even if it means more trips to the loo.

Elsiequadrille · 11/08/2013 15:31

Yes, By Terry Touche Veloutee is miraculous, I love it

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 19:21

Oh, where can I by that? online? can I get it in stores? I would prefer to try a little on my skin if I am going to spend money...

I didn't get into town, but tuesday I will go and get the eye gel etc.

I drank 1.5 litres of fizzy water and orange juice today at a bbq, no alcohol!

OP posts:
Elsiequadrille · 11/08/2013 19:27

You can buy it from SpaceNK, I took a chance and bought mine online, though is probably sensible to try first.

TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 20:31

WOW! £35! I really do think I need to get a sample of it somehow first. I will be willing to pay that, if it's a miracle worker (along with me drinking more water) if I know it works, and for the right colour, but I can't tell what colour I need. I have pale/red skin.

But, more concerning than the price of that, is the price of the foundation that I have seen by this Terry. I want it. I actually love the sound of it. £44+£35 = a fuck of a lot of money just to make me look less puffed up and blotchy...

OP posts:
TheSunTheMoonTheTruth · 11/08/2013 20:36

What's the difference between the Touch Advanced and the Veloute? the Touch Advanced looks good too...

Someone said they got one shade for winter and a different one for summer. I find I have to do this with my foundation, I will have to do this for the eyes too won't I?
