Will be going to Uniqlo for first time ever.

So do they do anything especially well that I should check out?
I generally wear skinnies from Oasis, Zara and Esprit, sweatshirts/tshirts/jumpers from River Island, Fat Face, Zara, Oasis.

Like casual but well turned out look. I'm 53 short and size 12. Any recommendations? I need a bit of everything for winter. Tia

They have nice skinny jeans and cords but their sizing is very off-everything is huge-so make sure you try on.

Twinklestein · 10/08/2013 19:03

I went to Uniqlo for the first time a couple of winters ago & bought
some 100% merino wool jumper dresses in 3 different colours and some cashmere blend knitwear. Would recommend.

Also I think Benetton does very good high street knitwear for the price.

Mominatrix · 10/08/2013 19:05

Love their jeans - they have complimentary tailoring, which is fantastic for us shorties.

I also love their cotton tees, cashmere jumpers and Heat tech undergarments.

mystaplerisevil · 10/08/2013 19:05

v neck tops are great, lots of colours and cheap but wear well

love the hoodies

mystaplerisevil · 10/08/2013 19:06

have some japanese stretch jeans and they come up big, make sure you try trousers on

cafenoir · 10/08/2013 19:15

Oh wow. Sounds good. Thanks for these. I've always heard good things about Uniqlo but we don't have one round these parts. Am visiting DD soon and she has one nearby. Getting excited now.

The lambswool and the merino jumpers are great. I love them. I think they're the best high street basics around.

If they're in now, the thermal skinny jeans are brilliant. I wore mine to death last A/W. I don't really rate the normal skinny jeans - they stretch out and are way too big and the rise is far too low for me. I bought some plain white shirts from there that were terrible, like school shirts from the 1980s, but the flannel and silk shirts are excellent. And Heattech is really good for layering up really warmly without turning into the Michelin Man.

I'm saving this thread to bookmarks so I don't forget what to check out. Thanks ever so.

I love the ultra seamless pants and have just bought a denim shirt dress. Also, the raincoats you can stuff in your bag have come in use over the last few weeks. Agree sizing in jeans is HUGE.

MrsJamin · 11/08/2013 13:19

Watch out for the care labels. I have a lovely lambswool jumper that was really reasonable but it is dry clean only! Shock. I am not convinced of their t-shirts' cut but the coats and knitwear is lovely.

NorfolkIngWay · 11/08/2013 13:21

Love the Merino knitwear.
Also check out the undies ,tights, and leggings.
I am a lover of nice comfy, classic undercrackers and also recently went and got lovely vests- so pretty and inexpensive.
DD loves the jeggings - they make her bum look perky apparently Grin

50shadesofmeh · 11/08/2013 13:27

Cardigans especially merino, the UT t shirts are great and the legging trousers

BeginnerSAHM · 11/08/2013 13:28

I bought a pair of 'skinny straight' jeans from there yesterday for £7.60! Lovely surprise at the till as they were mixed up in the full price stock. They are great! Dark indigo and v flattering on the bum. Normally a size 10 bottom (sometimes size 8) and was a 24 in the jeans. Had to pay the grand sum of £3 to have them taken up as they were under £19... (Most full price jeans £29 so you can get them altered for free.). I second the recommendation for the heat tech things - bought a few of those yesterday. First time I've been 'real' shopping for months.... Oh, also bought dark indigo skinnies (tapered) which I think are fab but they are much tighter (same size, maybe less stretch!)

ygritte · 11/08/2013 20:47

Go early in the morning so that you can have anything altered, I think it usually takes about 3 hours.
Ultra stretch jeans are really good and their legging trousers are great basics.

I went to Uniqlo today but didn't buy anything. They had some TShirts in the sale but in XS size.

I have a couple of TShirts that are really nice- wash and keep their shape. Nothing today caught my eye but it's in the 'changeover' phase to A/W

But things I did like:
a gorgeous, soft as butter shirt dress (not sure what it was made from, but I wouldn't wear a shirt-dress TBH)

and the down filled jackets. My DD wants one but the colours are very different on-line so we'll buy it instore.
Light as thistledown Smile

cafenoir · 11/08/2013 21:38

Gosh, I'm going to be in there hours! :) Thanks all.

They don't have all their Autumn/Winter stuff in yet...

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/08/2013 22:20

Do you know when the full A/W range is in Twinklestein?

The Bluewater store (where I went today) had some merino sweaters, the down jackets and fur trimmed parka coats.

And they were closing early to stock take, so that sounds promising Grin
