Please help me with my fine straight hair

I really want it to look thick and glossy and slightly wavy.

Currently it is just below my shoulders and just looks lank and floppy.

Any ideas on how I can do better? It looks slightly better with heaps of dry shampoo and BBH used but I don't have time to do it every morning.

Watching closely as mine is the same.

It looks best in a short crop but I can't afford to keep getting it cut every month so have been growing it and now have no idea how to style it Sad

MsIngaFewmarbles · 09/08/2013 10:46

I have had it short before and it looked nice but I have put on loads of weight (3 stone) and it didn't look right short with a chubby face. Currently working on the weight but I do like my hair long.

I have really fine hair and used to have it long, it looked rubbish Sad

I now have a choppy graduated bob type thing with long layers (I'm sure there's a specific name for it!). It's now actually looks really thick and in good condition.

I think a 6 weekly cut is a must to keep it looking at it's best Grin

I too have taken the plunge & gone for a shorter style with choppy layers.
My hair looks & feels thicker & its easy to style .

I spent most of the 80's perming my ridiculously fine and straight hair to death so am now quite chuffed that I don't have to use straighteners when most of my friends are slave to them Grin

Anyway, this works for me if I want a bit of bounce for a change: after washing, comb golf ball size blob of regular mousse into your hair. Bend over and dry your hair upside down and, just before it's completely dry, flip back to upright and brush back of hair up from the nape to create distance from neck. Then, pull your hair as if you're going to make a high pony tail and twist it round and round on itself until it makes a sort of tight bun close to your head. Pin with a couple of grips while you do your make up and then remove grips and shake hair, loosening it with your fingers rather than a brush so as to keep the 'body'. Spray lightly and voila! Slightly kinky hair that feels all nice and swishy!

What products do you currently use?

MsIngaFewmarbles · 09/08/2013 19:01

I don't really use product regularly but I do use mousse when I'm attempting a blow dry. Its a treseme one if that matters.

I started to use Redkin thickening lotion. My hair will never be huge but it has made quite a difference. I think it will be a life long quest to find the ultimate hair product to make my hair both shine and bounce. Good luck.

Karbea · 09/08/2013 19:41

You definitely need to think about using products if you want more body.

I use bumble and bumble's thickening mousse. The rest of the products I use are more to do with improving the condition of my hair as that's a bit rubbish at the mo, so can't really advise on what I do.

You'd definitely need a heat protector and I guess a salt spray would be great (as long as your hair is in great condition).

You say you don't have time every morning, I've just started using (amongst other things) Oribe Royal Blowout which really helps my hair dry quicker, which may give you more time :)

greensmoothiegoddess · 09/08/2013 21:35

I recommend Lush's seasalt spray. It adds wave and volume. Usually maintains bounce for a day in my hair.

dancemom · 09/08/2013 22:09

Sleep rollers - they are fab!
I have shoulder length fine lank hair with no volume but I shower at night, put some mousse in my hair and then put my rollers in, takes less than 10 minutes. Then in the morning, remove, shake hair out, squirt with hairspray and leave house Grin

They are great!

sweetheart · 09/08/2013 22:15

I have some clip in hair extension's that I use to add length and thickness. It took a while to get used to putting them in but I love them now. I also find my hair is better when it's shorter, I'm off to have it all chopped off tomorrow

Wash hair.

Get dressed.

Crush hair into bobble. Like a folded up high ponytail.

Get in car.

Set off to work with blowers targeted on hair.

After half an hour, remove bobble at lights.

Complete journey (20 mins more)

Arrive at work, comb out with fingers

Graciously accept all compliments on hair.

JemimaPuddle · 09/08/2013 23:06

dancemom could you link to the sleep rollers if possible please? They sound the answer to my hair problems :) which mousse do you use?
