URGENT - What Make Up for My Wedding ?

Esmummy · 13/06/2006 11:44

Have booked into to have a make up trial at Clinique on Saturday. My plan is to have the trial, if i like it I will buy all the products to do my make up on the day.

Is Clinique a good choice ? Any others in Debenhams who would be a better choice ?

MAC, MAC, MAC

Cod · 13/06/2006 11:45

depends who you have really imo

tle them quite clearly what you want
if youa re unsure of any of thcolours then go and buy a cheaper copy to try out so you dont make an ££ mistake

Esmummy · 13/06/2006 11:48

I went to MAC on the off chance this weekend as I was at my mums but they couldn't fit me and there isn't one in my local store :(
I don't wear alot of make up usually, when I do its a case of bronzer, mascara and lippy, although feel completely confident in applying any make up.
Want to go for something very very nuetral, maybe apricots, nudes etc

Good idea Cod, cannot afford to be wasting money on something i don't like or wont use.

adn think carfeully what colours suti you
they tired to do me in paoricots and i look bad in orange
so if you are a pinky toned person thne stick to your guns

bakedpotato · 13/06/2006 11:51

laura mercier/bobbi brown?

Esmummy · 13/06/2006 11:55

Ahh see this is where i fall down. I have absolutely no idea what would suit me.
I don't really know what tones I have, I am not dark or olive skinned, but equally am not pastey either.
When I do go somewhere that I need to be made up for I usually go for quite heavy eyes, browns and creams and then very basic everywhere else.
Surely someone that works in make up should know what would or wouldn't suit me, or is that hoping too much ?

Go to SpaceNK not clinique
They have loads of brands and they will do you a good natural look not try and plaster it on

CountessDracula · 13/06/2006 12:15

where do you live?

Kathy1972 · 13/06/2006 12:15

Well look at the people who work on Clinique counters - they don't know what suits themselves, never mind you!

anchovies · 13/06/2006 12:16

I found estee lauder was pretty good for wedding makeup. Completely depends who does it though, do a runner if you turn up and the woman's orange...

Esmummy · 13/06/2006 12:26

Ha anchovies, think i might just do that. I might pop into town and check them out before my appointment on Saturday.

E do try spacenk youwill look so much better i can't tell you

BonyM · 13/06/2006 12:30

You need stuff that will last and not need constant re-touching, so:

\link\www.blincinc.com/about_kiss_me.htm\
Blinc Kiss Me mascara}
Benefit Benetint for cheeks
Max Factor Lip Finity for lips

Estee Lauder are good for foundation.

BonyM · 13/06/2006 12:31

Damn, I'm usually good at links...

CountessDracula · 13/06/2006 12:37

Go to the spaceNK \link{http://www.spacenk.co.uk/SpaceNK/beauty_specialists.aspx\website} and look at tips and hints or whatever it#s called

CountessDracula · 13/06/2006 12:38

Angel face at the bottom right is natural looking

MrsBadger · 13/06/2006 12:43

just a thought... how much were you planning to spend on buying make up?

Because if you don't normally wear it, and/or won't get much use out of the stuff you buy, is it worth spending £30 or more on products when that much would pay for a professional to do your makeup for you on the day of the wedding?

I went with the pay-a-professional option and can honestly say it was 600000 times better than if I'd attempted it myself, however good the products were.

CountessDracula · 13/06/2006 12:44

Youwould need a rehersal though presumably

I HATE it when people who normally wear little or no make-up suddenly wear lots for their wedding it looks awful

Esmummy · 13/06/2006 12:47

Aha they have one in St Albans CD, I could possibly do that. I have my final fitting in Saturday so was trying to get it all done in the one day but St Albans in only 20 mins away.
I will ring them now.
Mrs B, I have set a budget of £100. Although I don't wear make up very often I do make an effort when i do actually go out, its just not a everyday thing for me really. Plus, at least it will last a long time.
I cannot get anyone to come out and do my make up the morning of the wedding which is why i've gone down this route.

OP posts:
Esmummy · 13/06/2006 12:48

Oh OK, maybe I will look hideous :(

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 13/06/2006 12:49

aha, fair enough

CountessDracula · 13/06/2006 12:50

NO you will not if you are going for natural look

I mean, when they go to the vile orange ladies and come outlooking like one of them, it's unnatural!

When I was getting married I went to a clinique person a couple of months beofre. They spent half an hour putting vile lippie on and I screamed when I looked in the mirror, grabbed a cotton wool pad and removed it immediately!

They also gave me YELLOW eyeshadow

ffs

SpaceNK will make you look natural don't worry

puff · 13/06/2006 12:51

I do think the staff in Space NK know what they are doing generally.

I did my own make up for my wedding - bought a book and practiced from it a few times. It's getting it looking natural for daylight and pics (both b&w and colour if you are doing both) that's the trick.

CountessDracula · 13/06/2006 12:51

Not sure you will get the lot for £100 there but maybe

Tell them your budget when you call see if they think they can do it
