Is this a very high maintenance hair cut?

I have a hankering for Nicole Kidman's haircut in the Jimmy Choo adverts. I figure if her curly hair can look that good, my thickish-but-with-a-tendency-to-frizz could also pull it off. But would it need a lot of work to keep it looking good? I suspect so... Sad

She's got dozens of people fannying around her doing her hair.

Chunky, messy, piecey bobs are high maintenance in my experience. They need washing and styling daily.

But quicker to do the actual styling than longer hair, if that makes sense.

Is your hair on the dry or greasy side?

FamiliesShareGerms · 05/08/2013 20:40

Greasy but I can go a couple of days between washes

Ooh it's a bit like Rene Russo's in the Thomas Crown Affair which I lusted over and tried to copy. But when I grew mine out (I normally have short hair) it just got too heavy and floppy with loads of static.

I think what they have is a short version of "big hair" which requires loads of drying with a round brush (or big hair thingy) and probably loads of mouse and backcombing to look that thick and bouncy.

My hair is fine though, if yours is thick you might be a step closer.

LadyBigtoes · 05/08/2013 20:43

I like nicole's too btw!

Soontobemama · 05/08/2013 20:48

Nicole is wearing a wig in those ads

Juniperdewdropofbrandy · 05/08/2013 20:52

If it's sliced right it can look great and not be too high maintenance. You need a very good hair stylist though. Have a consultation first and make sure they show you easy ways to style it yourself.

Although on some of her photos it looks very wiggy to me?

SundaySimmons · 05/08/2013 20:52

It's a wig, no way is that her own hair!

SundaySimmons · 05/08/2013 20:53

It looks like one of those hideous qvc/ Raquel Welch /ken pavers jobs!

Sorry.

BaronessTeapot · 05/08/2013 20:53

I have thick red hair and had a similar haircut years ago.

Once in a blue moon it looked fab.

More often than not it looked like a crash helmet.

Juniperdewdropofbrandy · 05/08/2013 20:53

LadyB Renee looked so sexy in that movie. Dp has worn his dvd away Grin And that dress!!!

Juniperdewdropofbrandy · 05/08/2013 20:54

Oh and great products are you friend. But a good salon will advise too.

MrsApplepants · 05/08/2013 20:58

I have this hairstyle (sadly that where the similarities between me and NK stop) I can confirm is is quite high maintenance and you will need the straightening irons every day

Safmellow · 05/08/2013 20:58

I've got very thick hair, goes frizzy easily and quite greasy and had my hair cut like that a while ago. Now frantically trying to grow it out and looking like a spaniel :(

FamiliesShareGerms · 05/08/2013 21:36

Hmm, sounds like it's a hair cut to file under "When I win the Euromillions and get a hairdresser in every day to blow dry my barnet", then. Thanks all

Oh my word, that is a fab haircut! I am hankering after a graduated bob but need to lose several stone first as my face is currently too fat to carry it off.

cafenoir · 06/08/2013 08:15

I'm at other end of spectrum with fine hair. Had similar cut and it took litres of mousses, gels, straightening, arranging, spraying, to get it to look anywhere half decent, tousled in the 'right' way, and not like a long-haired hamster emerging after a heavy downpour. Have grown it long and now wear it up. Looks much nicer/thicker and takes a fraction of the time and products.

cathyandclaire · 06/08/2013 09:03

I have this hair cut too (but brunette with grey roots not gorg and red) and have v thick curlyish/frizzy hair and I find it much easier to manage than when it was shoulder length and it used to flick out all over the place!

FamiliesShareGerms · 06/08/2013 19:32

I think long hair is definitely easiest to style, having had waist length hair once upon a time. I just can't decide between shoulder length which can at least be twisted up on a bad hair day and shorter hair which needs styling more but looks more fashionable. Ho hum.
