I have seen these mentioned a couple of times on other posts, are they seen as a fashion faux pas? I've got a couple.....

Nothing wrong with them if you like them. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I don't like them myself but that's my preference and I wouldn't be judgey about someone else wearing them

MerylStrop · 05/08/2013 19:57

much sneered at on here

i think its their ubiquity

but obvs it's not what you wear but how you wear it

Suburban · 05/08/2013 20:15

I have a few and really like them. I think the key is to try and find ones that aren't too bulky/frilly. My OH hates them though so perhaps I am completely deluded!

ggirl · 05/08/2013 20:17

they always make me think of Gloria Hunniford

noddyholder · 05/08/2013 20:21

I think they are horrible (sorry) mumsy tv presenter style. Gloria hunniford pmsl

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/08/2013 20:30

There are different styles, some are much nicer than others, they need to be of a good quality fabric that drapes well. It also depends on your figure, I know a woman who is very tall, slim, boyish figure, she wears them over skinny jeans and a vest top and they look fabulous on her. Whereas I am a shortish size 16 pear shape and they look terrible on me as they hide my main asset which is my waist.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/08/2013 20:31

I've loads and like them. They keep you warmer than regular cardies as you can fold them over yourself when you're sat down

Alwayscheerful · 05/08/2013 20:34

M & S do a beautiful cashmere one in grey & camel its £100+ but very warm & stylish.

superbagpuss · 05/08/2013 20:42

I love mine as I can wrap myself up in them

have a couple of light ones for summer evenings and a thicker one with hood for the winter

size wise I'm a 10/12

cloudskitchen · 05/08/2013 20:47

I have a couple and I am not frumpy or mumsy. I think they work best over skinny jeans and vest tops as a pp said. Over anything else I do think they look a bit old iykwim

spicywalrus · 05/08/2013 20:56

I wear mine with jeans and vest tops, mine are in neutral colours so they are easy to throw on, but they are getting a bit old now.

How to care for your waterfall cardigan.

  1. Take a lighted match....

Sorry!

I admit to buying a pale pink one and a grey one, wore the grey one a couple of times but was put off by some old grannies asking me where I had bought it as they loved it!

I put the pink one on and my daughter threatened to shoot me if I ever wore it out, so they both ended up going to the RSPCA charity shop.

Agree with above - they are unforgiving. The cardigan needs to be expensive and the wearer needs to be skinny to make them look good.

NoComet · 05/08/2013 21:48

If you have hips wider than your shoulders, they look Mumsy and daft.

DD1(14ish with a woman's hips) ended up flapping round M&S's changing room saying I look like a bird. She did too.

If you are tall and boyish so they drape not stick out fine, but on DD or me they look very silly.

tanukiton · 05/08/2013 21:54

I like them but am 5 9" about a 10/12 but then I lived in a blanket and shall return to the blanket one day.....
